Lay It On The Line
Triumph Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You turn a lover into just another friend
I want to love you, I want to make you mine
Won't you lay it on the line?
I'm tired of playing all your foolish games
I'm tired of all of your lies making me insane
I don't ask for much, the truth'll do just fine
Lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
Don't waste my time
You got no right to make me wait
We better talk, girl, before it gets too late
I never thought you could be so unkind
Won't you lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
Don't waste my time
You know I love you, you know it's true
It's up to you, girl, what've I got to do
Don't hold me up, girl, don't waste my precious time
Won't you lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
Lay it on the line
The lyrics of Triumph’s “Lay It On The Line” describe a lover who wants clarity and honesty from their partner, rather than playing games and feeding them lies. The first verse outlines the familiar situation where a lover has become just another friend, leaving the singer to express their desire to turn that friend back into a lover. The chorus urges the partner to be truthful and stop wasting time by playing games. The second verse is more direct in its language, as the singer is tired of being made to wait and suffer through games and lies. The bridge asserts the singer’s love for their partner and their willingness to do what it takes, but still urges the partner to be direct and honest to not waste precious time.

Who thinks this song still rocks in 2023 as it did in 1982?

SO MANY epic bands and guitarists from the 1980s.

And they play instruments... not like today's "musicians" who can only sing...use computer generated drums and guitars...no talent beyond singing 😢
