Never Say Never
Triumph Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Keeping the faith is a constant fight
We live and we breath it
And when you feel the cause is right
You gotta believe it
Which is stronger, your hope or your fear?
Meet the challenge of your life...

CHORUS:
Never say never -- don't let me down
Try to understand
(Never say never) I will always be around
Never say never again

They say if you're not aware of history
You're doomed to repeat it
You gotta face up to your enemy
'N' try to defeat it
Somehow you can find the strength
Somewhere that's deep down inside

CHORUS

I still believe in the power of truth
That the fire of freedom can burn in the heart of a song
Dare to dream in all that you do
Forever can never be wrong

CHORUS

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Triumph's song "Never Say Never" are about the struggle to maintain faith and hope in the face of adversity. The opening lines, "Keeping the faith is a constant fight, We live and we breathe it," convey the idea that faith is not something static, but rather a dynamic force that requires constant attention and effort. The lyrics go on to ask, "Which is stronger, your hope or your fear?" This question points to the fact that fear and doubt can sometimes be powerful obstacles to faith and hope, but that ultimately, it is up to each individual to "meet the challenge of your life" and find the strength to overcome those obstacles.

The chorus of the song is a call to action and an expression of support. "Never say never," the lyrics urge, "don't let me down, try to understand." This can be interpreted as a plea to never give up hope or lose faith, no matter how difficult things may seem. The song goes on to express a belief in the power of history to inform and guide our actions in the present. "They say if you're not aware of history, you're doomed to repeat it," the lyrics caution, before urging listeners to "dare to dream in all that you do" and affirming that "forever can never be wrong."

Overall, the lyrics of "Never Say Never" are an inspiring call to action and an affirmation of the power of hope, faith, and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Jaf's Electric Fantasy

Been a fan since 1980...for three guys they rock my universe!!!!!!!! Better than any bs band today....

chrishenderson420

right up there with Saga, both Canadian legends.

Tyme Ryder

Criminally underrated, imo this is one of Triumph's best albums. Naysayers are either tone deaf, brainwashed by pop media or are simply too young to appreciate the 80's.

David Timms

I absolutely love Triumph. Three outstanding musicians creating epic music. I saw them four times live in the 80s. One of them was in Evansville in March '83 on the Never Surrender tour. We were right up on the rail in front of Rik Emmett. We had sunburns from all the pyro lol!!!

@Z Chylde True. TRIUMPH is a Canadian band. However, TRIUMPH owe the U.S. a whole lot of gratitude for much of its success outside Canada. TRIUMPH first broke out of San Antonio, TEXAS; and the word spread through much of the American midwest, north east, and later southern success in California and Florida. TRIUMPH's international record deal with the Record Company of America (RCA) and later with MCA Records also allowed the band to further its career outside Canada. Canada is a small market population-wise; and due to its geography, it's a vast country and very expensive to tour from coast to coast, so not many Canadian bands can survive long term without success in major markets like the U.S., the EU and Japan (there are a few exceptions like the TRAGICALLY HIP and BLUE RODEO).

Z Chylde

Why post an American flag? They are Canadian. Possibly the greatest Canadian rock band ever.
