Suffocating Sight
Trivium Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am but a farce a satire of stability
Insecurity is an uphill struggle it's me versus the world
The shore still starves
For another
Novel of my shipwrecked being tied up dried alive still breathing
The sands of time from me are running out
My hands shake in apprehension
Of every action I'm guilty of playing the victim
Just like the embrace of arms that made you
They'll surely destroy you
It's time for your panic
Then it kills and makes you manic
Making its way inside - relax, it's alright

Panic grips your frantic breathing
I can't breathe, I can't breathe!

Overall Meaning

In "Suffocating Sight", Trivium's lyrics address feelings of insecurity, instability, and panic. The opening lyrics describe the singer as a "farce" and a "satire of stability", highlighting his own doubts about himself. As he struggles with his own insecurity, he feels that the world is against him: "Insecurity is an uphill struggle it's me versus the world." The metaphor of a shipwrecked being tied up and left to dry alive, but still breathing, further emphasizes the difficulty of his situation - he is alive, but barely hanging on. The singer recognizes that time is running out for him, that he is consistently nervous about every action that he takes.

The second half of the song describes the singer's experience with panic, which is personified as something that is separate from him but slowly making its way inside. The panic grips his breathing, and he feels as though he cannot breathe. This intense feeling of panic creates a sense of mania, leading him to say "I can't breathe, I can't breathe!" The lyrics suggest a feeling of hopelessness, as the panic feels like something that is killing him from the inside out. Overall, the song is a raw and powerful expression of the struggles that come with anxiety and insecurity.

@Django 87 Its not "bad" just different

@MO-vs3dg

@Django 87 This is probably the heaviest Trivium song or at least top 3. But you can't tell me you think "sever the hand" and "thrown into the fire" off of SATS are bad or else it's obvious that you think that melody is "bad".

That verse riff is one of the hardest metal guitar riffs to play ever. Seriously I’ve been playing for almost 10 years and I’ve learned some crazy shit I never thought I could do but still can’t play this riff that fast so clean.

@SteveAyanami

Nah it's easy.
