Taylor started the band in Liverpool, England, in 2014 with bass player Lewis Rollinson and drummer Brad Mullins. Known briefly as Trudy before rebranding, the trio released a series of stand-alone songs beginning with "All My Love" in May 2015. Produced by Spring King's Tarek Musa, it debuted the band's ramshackle, updated take on vintage rock guitar and harmony vocals. Their "Wild" and "He Sings" "double A-side" singles marked a move to B3SCI Records in 2016. Subsequent releases included covers of Elvis Presley's "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" and "Baby Mine" from Disney's Dumbo. Featuring all original songs, Trudy and the Romance's debut EP, Junkyard Jazz, arrived in late 2017. They followed up with their first long-player, Sandman, on B3SCI in mid-2019.

The thrill is done, we had sex
Then she cracked up
The first time that we met
Oh, baby, I won′t be
Jacked up Saturday night
And if I choked up, coming home
When the Mersey's starting to hurt
If you′re so sick of the shore
Can't you crack me the cellar door
When the Mersey's making you worse
Ooh, get in my car baby (get in my car baby)
Oh baby don′t go away (baby don′t go away)
Don't let your head run away like that
Only a fool would ask you to come back
Don′t act like a Junkyard Cat
Baby, backtrack
Like I told you to (back in the city)
(Dancing to the moonlight blues) A junkyard jazz tune
I wonder about something new
My feelings for you
Are always something new
In this city light
(I wonder)
By the Sea
(I wonder)
About the Mersey when it twists my head
(I wonder)
And I wonder about how you've been
Oh, Babe
They don′t mind
If you cry, sometimes
When the Mersey's starting to hurt
Ooh, get in my car baby (get in my car baby)
Oh baby don′t go away (baby don't go away)
Don't let your head run away like that
Don′t act like a Junkyard
Cat
The song "Junkyard Cat" by Trudy and the Romance depicts a love story that is falling apart. The singer is talking about how his girlfriend is faking the love that they once had and how they had sex, but the thrill is now gone. He talks about how scared he was when he came home and how the Mersey, a river in England, is starting to hurt him. He is afraid that he will lose his girlfriend forever and sings about how he wants her to get in his car and not go away. The lyrics are very melancholic with a hint of regret and a longing to fix things.
The singer talks about how he wonders about something new in the city and how his feelings for her are always something new. He mentions the Mersey again and how it twists his head, which could be a reference to how their love is twisting his head as well. The song ends with the plea to not act like a "Junkyard Cat," which could refer to someone who is fickle and not willing to commit to a relationship.
Overall, the song "Junkyard Cat" is about a love that is falling apart and the desperation to keep it together. The lyrics are very poetic and evocative, painting a picture of a relationship in crisis.

Trying to decipher the lyrics a little, probably wrong, but here's an attempt:
She faked it
The thrill is done, we had sex
Then she cracked up
The first time that we met
Oh, baby, I won't be
Jacked up Saturday night
And if I choked up, coming home
I was scared so tight(?)
When the Mersey's starting to hurt
If you're so sick of the shore,
can't you crack me the cellar door
When the Mersey's making you worse
Ooh, get in my car baby (get in my car baby)
Oh baby don't go away (baby don't go away)
Don't let your head run away like that,
Only a fool would ask you
To come back
Don't act like a Junkyard Cat
Baby, backtrack
Like i told you to (back in the city)
(Listen to the moonlight blues) A junkyard jazz tune
I wonder about something new
My feelings for you
Are always something new
In this city light
(I wonder)
By the Sea
(I wonder)
About the Mersey when it twists my head
(I wonder)
And I wonder
about how you've been
Oh, Babe,
They don't mind,
If you cry, sometimes
When the Mersey's making you worse
Ooh, get in my car baby (get in my car baby)
Oh baby don't go away (baby don't go away)
Don't let your head run away like that,
Don't act like a Junkyard... Cat
Correct my mistakes but this is as accurate as I can get it
