The Rising
Tryad Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you remember
A sky of blue
Sun shining
Down on you

Do you remember
Mountain streams
Blooming flowers
And trees of green

Did you ever
Swim in a sea
Breathing air where
Air was free

Tell me tell me
I want to know
About the rain
About the snow

What's it like to
Lay on grass

Watching the wind
Push clouds past

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tryad's song The Rising speak to the loss of nature and the environment. The opening lines call to mind a memory of a simpler time in which the sky was bright blue and the sun shone down on us. The mention of mountain streams, blooming flowers, and trees of green evoke an idyllic natural setting. The following verse takes us deeper into this memory, as we are asked whether we have swum in a sea and breathed in air that was free. These lines stand out because they hint at a world where these simple pleasures are no longer available to us.

We are then prompted to tell the singer about the rain and snow. These natural occurrences, once commonplace, seem to have become distant memories. The final verse encourages us to think about what it would be like to lay on the grass and watch the wind push clouds past. It's a peaceful image, one that we might associate with childhood or a simpler time. The song's underlying message is that we need to pay attention to the changes that are happening to our planet and take steps to protect it, lest we lose more and more of what we once held dear.

I'm one of the founding members of Tryad and personally mixed this song. I'm consistently amazed at the new art that comes from something released years ago at this point. Good work, glad I discovered this.

I watch this every few weeks. The pain of death is so strong and we deny it for so long, seeing our loves everywhere. So this video can either be him denying his girlfriend or wives death , or her ghost is reaching out to him. Sometimes he can see her and interact and sometimes he cant see her. Or the vid shows that not even death can sever the bond of love.

Whatever this is about, it hits me hard and I tear up every time. His love for her and his pain of missing her is SO clear on his face. I Just want to hug him tight.

Hey Tryad, you are even popular in Lithuania. It is a small country in the Eastern Europe by the Baltic Sea. This song is used as an introductory track for one of the most famous Lithuanian science / educational channels Mokslo Sriuba. Many thanks for this marvelous piece of artwork!
