A Lifetime Of Adventure
Tuomas Holopainen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

To be rich is
To still remember
To treasure your 1st dime
To have a chance to say farewell

Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope, and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless goldfields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive a memory

Far-off lands quests of old
Self-respect true grit
Never cared what fortune might buy
To seek is to be rich

Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope, and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless goldfields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive a memory

All the strangers on your path
Crossroads, the letters from home
The cooling embers of a Yuletide hearth
All the sounds of wilderness
The truth in which you roamed
Now your lost Rosebud has brought you back home

Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope, and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless goldfields to reap

To be rich is to seek
To relive a memory

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tuomas Holopainen's A Lifetime of Adventure describe the idea that true riches come from experiences and memories rather than material wealth. The line "To be rich is to seek, to relive a memory" emphasizes that the pursuit of new experiences and the ability to cherish past ones is far more valuable than accumulating wealth. The song also touches on themes of self-discovery, wandering, and the power of home and family.

The opening lines, "To be rich is to still remember, to treasure your 1st dime, to have a chance to say farewell" suggests that wealth is not defined by the amount of money you have, but rather by the memories and experiences that shape who you are. The next lines describe a life of adventure, freedom, and the pursuit of gold. The use of imagery such as "countless goldfields to reap" and "far-off lands quests of old" highlight the idea that adventure and exploration are the true riches of life.

The chorus repeats the idea that the "story of your life" and the "freedom of an open road" are the true measures of wealth. The last verse brings the song full circle, acknowledging the fact that even those who roam and wander eventually come home. The lines "now your lost Rosebud has brought you back home" suggest that even though the journey may be important, the people and places we return to are what truly matter in the end.

Overall, A Lifetime of Adventure is a beautifully written and powerful song that encourages listeners to embrace the adventure of life, to seek out new experiences, and to cherish the memories that make life truly rich.

At first it was only music that sounded good and kept replaying in my head.

Hours later i finally listened and started to wonder what this weird thing tried to say.

Then i remembered the things i knew about scrooge, his first coin and his unreasonable and (financially disadvantageous) beloved adventures.

Then i suddenly started to understand and listened to this song for the first time how it was meant to be listened to.

It was never about the money, he also isn't really greedy. It is just that every touchable coin for him is a memory he made and it is unique. Thats the special thing about his money for him. It is not just money that can be exchanged to other money or coins. For him it is unique and that is also why he defends it with his life. Each coin is a touchable and unique memory and for him, that is his very life.

Took me some time and actually made me grow. Thank you from my Heart.

@thedrewdog

This is beautiful.

As a longtime Ducktales fan, I'm finally reading through 'The Life and Times with Scrooge McDuck' using this album as a backing score.

That scene where he leaves the letter behind...WOW.

Before Alan Young dies, I would love to see a 'Life and Times' mini-series. You can't get much more epic than matching Teddy Roosevelt in a fistfight.

Also, it's wonderful to see Don Rosa in this video, especially in his moments of genuine joy and pride.
