In The Night
Turner Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Somewhere out in the galaxy
A number's up but not for me
There's a light inside the window
And the curtain's coming down
Pig is on the spit, and turning round

Going crazy in the night
Crazy in the night

Dropped in from Munich with a master plan
Guess he left his wife and kids at home
He's got so much money rollin'
From the crimes he'll commit
But the Siamese cats are gonna take a little bit

[Chorus]
Going crazy in the night
Crazy in the night
Will I turn and run, or do I stand and face the gun?
Going crazy in the night
Everybody seemed to've lost their way
Crazy in the night
Seems there's no way outta here
Do I turn and run?
No!

Got no hands, but I've got my head
I've come so far from the temple
Maybe this is Babylon, or maybe it's a dream
If it weren't so beautiful, it would be obscene
Drinking with the panthers, dancing for their life
God, this place is hungry
Come and see the players, but don't stay for the show
The cats are out tonight, hungry for their rites

[Chorus]

Got no hands, but I've got my head
I've come so far from the temple

Maybe this is Babylon, or maybe its a dream
If it weren't so beautiful...

Overall Meaning

In “In the Night,” a song by the British singer and songwriter Turner, the singer describes an otherworldly, dream-like environment that's both fascinating and dangerous. The lyrics paint a picture of a bizarre setting populated by strange creatures and unusual sights. Turner's description of the place is hazy and ambiguous, leaving its interpretation open to the listener's imagination. In the opening verse of the song, he sets the stage by saying the following lines: Somewhere out in the galaxy, A number's up but not for me. These lines are mysterious yet evocative, and they suggest that the singer is somewhere he doesn't belong.

The next verse introduces a character named Pig, who is roasting on a spit. Another protagonist is introduced, a man with a “master plan.” Turner reveals neither of their stories but rather taunts the listeners with little bits of information about their strange existence. As the song progresses, the singer states that “Everybody seemed to've lost their way,” and “Seems there's no way outta here." These lines continue the theme of the bizarre and unnatural atmosphere, which seems almost otherworldly. In the final verse, Turner again refers to the singer's transformation, who has "got no hands" but "has got a head." It appears that the song's intention is to depict a journey or experience that has taken the singer far from their comfort zone, and they're discovering new worlds and creatures.

This is one of my favorite songs of all times
I’m too young to love this song that much (I wasn’t even born when this came out)🤣😂
But I’ve always loved it...even when I was a kid

Especially, knowing what she endured to record it (what’s love got to do with it)

This is my remember who you are song‼️‼️
When life gets you down or someone tries to tear you down
Remember who and WHO’S🙏🏽 you are

Thank you Tina🥰🥰
Many blessing to you and your family
May your health remain strong 🙏🏽

Oh man I love TINA TURNER!

I wish I could turn the hands of time back to the days when this album first came out. It takes me back to the days I would clean up around the house and I blasted Tina Turner, especially Nutbush City Limits. LOL I actually genuinely enjoyed cleaning house because of her music. It was Tina Turner who inspired me to open up to rock music, but it wasn't always that way.

I grew up listening to and admiring my mom's Mexican music of Banda, Mariachi, and even Nortena. I really didn't like the sounds I heard from the typical American rock music I heard back then. It just seemed wacked out and too extreme, I didn't connect with it on a personal or cultural level.

Then one funky rocking day, I experienced the Tina effect and I was never the same. Rock music made its way into my heart, thank you Tina. I still enjoy watching her performances on video, good stuff for sure and I am grateful to have grown up with Tina's energetic music. So many good songs! God bless Tina Turner with many more energetic years and good health.

Peace

@jd5726

You actually liked to that shit in school? I fucking hated it

@aussiewolfhound2873

Growing up in the 80's and 90's it was almost compulsary to play this at every party you'd go to... good times :) R.I.P. Tina.

@gnarkillkicksass

I only found out today that the dance is unique to Australia.... I thought it was a global thing

@hilo6755

Sorry, I'm not getting the Australian connection 🤔

@gnarkillkicksass

@@hilo6755 some PE teacher in Australia made up the nutbush dance to keep kids active on a rainy day. Since then every kid in school learns it and it's basically mandatory to do at any party/wedding etc because everyone in the room (if Aussie) will know it. Tina spent a lot of time in Australia and became the face of Rugby League for a decade.

@bettinalose2305
