Turning Point Lyrics

To get right where you are
You look around and wonder why
You ran so fucking fast
All the friends you took for granted
Childhood memories all brushed away
Just for the sake of expectation
I won't live my life that way
We are doomed to live out
I won't waste time on intimidation
I don't care if I'm cast out
High school kids just like the year before
Not struggling in academics
But setting new standards of who can drink more
It's not their fault
That's what they've been taught
But the biggest war will be on themselves
And it's one that's never fought
And won
I've won
I know you're scared
Because I'm scared for you
You promised yourself something
And never followed through
And the prophecy comes true
In the song Prophecy by Turning Point, the lyrics tackle the idea of succumbing to peer pressure and losing yourself in the pursuit of others' expectations. The opening lines, "You ran so fast, To get right where you are," suggest that the singer has been chasing a goal or societal expectation so quickly they have left behind their childhood memories and taken their friends for granted. Despite achieving this goal, the singer acknowledges that the journey has not been worthwhile, and they have ended up in a place they never intended to be.
The song's chorus states, "Peer pressure is just a prophecy, We are doomed to live out," indicating the inevitability of succumbing to societal influence unless one chooses to resist. The singer asserts that they will not waste their time on fear or intimidation from others, even if it means being cast out. They highlight the dangers of succumbing to peer pressure and societal expectations, particularly for high school students who are "setting new standards of who can drink more." The singer recognizes that this pressure doesn't stem from the students' fault but comes from the environment they are raised in. The song concludes with the singer acknowledging their fear for others but also pointing out the inevitability of a self-fulfilling prophecy when people promise themselves things and never follow through.
