Turning Point
Turning Point Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've seen it happen
Too many times
All the kids with wasted minds
But that won't happen to me
And I still can't fucking see
If you were smart
You'd lose that fucking joint
It's finally time for my
Turning point
It's never too late
To change your ways
Once you give it up
There'll be brighter days
But that won't happen to you
Just cut out all the shit you do
Because you're smart
You got my fucking point

It's finally time for your
Turning Point

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Turning Point's "Turning Point" reflect an individual's realization that they have been wasting their time and jeopardizing their future goals by engaging in destructive behavior such as drug use. The artist acknowledges that they have seen this pattern occur in many others but have convinced themselves that they are different and immune to the consequences of their actions. In the midst of their denial, they nevertheless recognize the need for change and seek to encourage others to do the same. The lyrics suggest that the turning point towards a brighter future is possible as long as there is a commitment to making positive changes and abandoning negative influences.

The first two lines of the song set a contemplative tone and suggest that the artist has been witness to this phenomena of "wasted minds" among their peers on multiple occasions. The use of the word "but" in the third line signifies a shift in perspective, as the artist begins to think about how these circumstances might apply to themselves. They admit that they still can't see the full magnitude of the problem at hand, possibly indicating a lingering sense of denial. The fourth and fifth lines, "If you were smart/You’d lose that fucking joint," convey a sense of implicit judgment towards others who are still entrenched in their destructive behavior. In the next verse, the artist shifts the focus to the listener, emphasizing that it's never too late to change their ways and that brighter days are possible if they are able to give it up. The repetition of "that won't happen to you" in this context feels like sarcasm or frustration towards someone who may be resistant to change. The artist ultimately implores the listener to cut out all the negative habits that stand in the way of their success, since they are smart enough to recognize the need for a turning point.

I appreciate you offering a solution, but the solution you offer won’t solve or significantly reduce gun violence. Most gun violence crimes are committed with handguns and more people are killed with fists than rifles.

Assault weapons aka automatic weapons are banned except for some older ones that require expensive permits to own.

Look at the number of people shot at the KC Chiefs rally - all with handguns. You know what would have prevented the murder of the woman there? Getting tough on criminals that are convicted of gun crimes. The shooter threatened people with a gun and was only charged with disturbing the peace and given unsupervised probation. Had he had been charged with assault using a gun and sent to prison the woman he killed would be alive today.

Securing the border will help too. Many illegal guns are smuggled across the border. It’s why Mexico who has strict gun laws has so many guns and gun violence. Guns are smuggled into Mexico from other Latin American countries and Asia.

We also need to look at who is committing the gun crimes and why? Many of the mass shootings are gang and drug related. Let’s work to rid our country of a culture of violence by reforming our education system in inner cities, changing government programs that incentivize absent father homes which has been studied and found that both boys and girls in these homes tend to be more prone to committing violence.

Take away Secret Service, take away armed guards at the Capitol and armed guards for politicians first.

@davidstephenpratt

Precisely. Don't become like the UK where politicians now need security to protect them from their bad policies while the rest of us aren't afforded the same luxury.

@rantsfromthesofa4653

I wish we had conservative politicians that would amend any gun control ban to make it apply to the Secret Service and all other law enforcement agencies as well as taking away security for politicians outside of the Capitol building. Make the politicians show their hypocrisy.

@dannynaylor5485

@@davidstephenprattnot kidding, they have just announced thay are going to spend £32million on security for the politicians

Now whether Americans will recognize the tyranny or not is another question.

@ReverendDr.Thomas

Being a SOLDIER is a legitimate and necessary occupation in this wicked and perilous world, mainly for the defence of a local population or nation, but unfortunately, not all soldiers serve a good master. Not all world leaders are righteous in all their ways. In fact, you who are reading this Holy Scripture, are almost definitely being oppressed by a corrupt, tyrannical regime. The reason that you may not realize this fact, is due to either abject ignorance, or because, just like your illegitimate government, you have little desire for society to be organized according to holy and righteous principles (“dharma”, in Sanskrit). Just as a newborn child has absolutely no conception of what is most beneficial to its welfare, the vast majority of citizens have very little idea of what benefits society most. Hence the decadent state of contemporary culture.
