On the song, Turnstile stays true to form, evoking the melodic, emotional-driven sound of post-hardcore pioneers such as Fugazi and Unwound. For those who insist American punk is dead, “MYSTERY” is an undeniable rebuttal that proves the genre continues to thrive and evolve beyond its boundaries.

Are you going in a rut?
And I believe in holding onto love
But I'm afraid to
And it's been so long
So the mystery gone
And it's been so long
All the mystery
There's a clock in my head
Is it wrong? Is it right?
I know you're scared of running out of time
But I'm afraid to
And it's been so long
So the mystery gone
And it's been so long
All the mystery
And it's been so long
So the mystery gone
And it's been so long
All the mystery
The lyrics of Turnstile's song MYSTERY explore the themes of fear, uncertainty, and the passage of time. The opening verse, "Things are going to my head, are you going in a rut?" suggests that the singer is feeling overwhelmed and trapped in their current situation. The mention of holding onto love reveals that they are clinging to something in hopes of finding stability or comfort. However, they are also afraid to fully commit, perhaps out of fear of getting hurt or being left vulnerable.
The chorus, "And it's been so long, all the mystery gone" expresses the passage of time and the loss of the unknown that can come with it. The clock in their head represents the constant pressure of time and how it can feel like it's slipping away. The line "I know you're scared of running out of time" suggests that the singer is not alone in their fears, that everyone is afraid of missing out or not making the most of their time.
The lyrics of MYSTERY are poignant and relatable, capturing the universal experiences of fear, uncertainty, and the ticking clock that shapes our lives. The repetition of "And it's been so long, all the mystery gone" reinforces the sense of time passing and the loss of the unknown. Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of someone struggling to find their footing in a world that can be overwhelming and unpredictable.

I'm really late to the Turnstile party (just got turned onto GLOW ON about 2 weeks ago) and I've been listening to the album on repeat nonstop. I can't recall the last time an album has made me feel so happy. This album has single handedly got me back into skating (it's been 18 years) and playing my guitar and drums again (a couple of years). I start every morning listening to the album and the intro to this song makes the best wake up alarm.
Thanks dudes!
