Mulberry Street
Twenty One Pilots Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(One, two, three, yeah)
Ah-ah

Keep your bliss
There's nothing wrong with this
(Ah-ah-ah-ah yeah, ooh)
Keep your bliss
There's nothing wrong with this

Keep your sunny days, leave us in the rain
Tie strings to our hands and feet, to rain on your parade
You can have the weekends, we will live between them
Keep your pills, save your breath, and don't ever forget

Get out of our way, we're moving sideways
Welcome to Mulberry Street, yeah
So move out of our way, we're pushing sideways
Keep sidewalk under your feet

Ain't no sunny skies, 'til you finally realize
That everybody relies on synthetic highs
They find someone to prescribe
Keep your bliss
There's nothing wrong with this
We just want to feel it all
Keep your pills, save your breath, and don't ever forget

Get out of our way, we're moving sideways
Welcome to Mulberry Street, yeah
So move out of our way, we're pushing sideways
Keep sidewalk under your feet

When times aren't the best, and I'm on the edge
I'll listen for a song in the distance
Mulberry Street, so good to see you
Mulberry Street, so good to see you
Mulberry Street, so good to see you
Mulberry Street
And don't ever forget

Get out of our way, we're moving sideways
Welcome to Mulberry Street, yeah
So move out of our way, we're pushing sideways
Keep sidewalk under your feet
Get our of our way, we're moving sideways
Welcome to Mulberry Street (so good to see you), yeah
So move out of our way (so good, so good)
We're pushing sideways (so good, so good)
Keep sidewalk under your feet (so good to see you)

Keep your bliss
There's nothing wrong with this

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Mulberry Street" by Twenty One Pilots appear to be a commentary on society's reliance on synthetic highs and the pressure to conform to societal norms. The song begins with the lines "Keep your bliss, there's nothing wrong with this," suggesting that the singer is content with their own way of life and doesn't need external validation to feel happy. They then go on to criticize those who try to impose their own ideals on others, saying "Tie strings to our hands and feet, to rain on your parade," and "Keep your pills, save your breath, and don't ever forget." These lines are likely referring to the pressure to take prescription medication to cope with mental health issues, rather than seeking alternative forms of treatment.

The chorus of the song is "Get out of our way, we're moving sideways, welcome to Mulberry Street," which could be interpreted as a call to action for others to join the singer in rejecting societal norms and finding their own path. The line "Keep sidewalk under your feet" could be seen as a reminder to stay grounded and not get swept up in the chaos of the world around us.

The bridge of the song is particularly poignant, with the singer talking about turning to music as a form of solace and escape in difficult times. "When times aren't the best, and I'm on the edge, I'll listen for a song in the distance" is a powerful image that many people can relate to, as music has the power to heal and soothe even in the darkest moments.

Overall, "Mulberry Street" is a thought-provoking and introspective song that encourages listeners to question the status quo and find their own way in life.

I’m hoping someone can help me understand some of the meaning behind this song. I absolutely love this album and everything TOP has ever done, ever lol. They’ve always spoke openly about mental health struggles. I’ve always felt less alone when listening to their music. I have major depressive disorder, I have a chemical imbalance. I don’t function well without the assistance of an anti depressant. I’m sure there are many others that will understand that. It sucks but we deal with what life throws at us the best we can.

Some of the lines in the song talk about feeling sad and not relying on medication when in reality, some people have to. Just like other diseases, some diseases for certain people require medication for that unique individual.

“Ain't no sunny skies, 'til you finally realize
That everybody relies on synthetic highs
They find someone to prescribe
Keep your bliss
There's nothing wrong with this
We just wanna feel it all
Keep your pills, save your breath
And don't ever forget”

Every time I listen to this song it honestly makes me feel bad about myself because of what I’ve gone through in life and the fact that without medication, I did not have a quality of life. I’m sure I’m overthinking all of this, but I think that’s kind of the point to deep music and music that matters. Songs with meaning, not just noise. It makes you feel some kind of way. Maybe it’s a memory you have, a melody that makes you feel a little better after a break up, etc. There’s no way in hell TOP would ever mock mental health issues EVER so I know 1000% that is not the case, I’m trying to peel back the onion guys lol.

I would love to read thoughts from people that love TOP’s music as much as I do. Maybe other opinions will shed some light on what I’m feeling from the song. Thanks for reading.
