Been thinkin' about the way you want me
Been thinkin' about the way you stare
I see you looking for a lover
You always caught me unaware
But I want a rational heart
Give me a rational heart
I know you'd like to hold me
Cover my head and kiss my fingers
Our love become a safety zone
But I want a rational heart
Give me a rational heart
I don't want a sweet surrender
I don't want to fall drunkly in love
Nurturing private emotions
We're the only thing we're ever thinking of
I want a rational heart
Give me a rational heart
Standing... Empty your heart into this cup
Standing... And let your conscience fill it up
Standing... Our open arms can heal the world
Standing in love... Innately powerful, equal and good
So if you want to be my lover
We're going to create this world anew
Living out the things we dream of
It's got to begin with me and you
And a rational heart
Building a rational world
The song "Sweet Jane" by Two Nice Girls explores the desire for a rational, conscious love as opposed to an emotional or reckless love. The opening lines suggest that the singer is aware of the way her lover desires her and is always looking for her attention. However, she desires a love that is based on reason and logic rather than emotion, which she refers to as a "rational heart."
The chorus reinforces this desire for a rational heart, repeating the lyrics "Give me a rational heart." The singer rejects the idea of falling blindly in love or being overcome by emotion. Instead, she desires a partnership in which two people work together to create a rational and equitable world.
The final stanza represents a call to action, encouraging the listener and the singer's potential lover to unite in building a rational world. The song ends with the chorus repeating the lyrics "Building a rational world." Overall, "Sweet Jane" can be interpreted as an ode to conscious, rational love that works towards a better world.
