The original lineup of TTS included Justin Beech (vocals, guitar), Dave DiCenso (drums, vocals) Jeff Gilman (bass, vocals), and Jake Shapiro (guitar, vocals). Dave departed TTS in 2002, and the likes of John O'Reilly, Kevin Shurtleff, Chad Smith, Mike Mangini, Troy Velasquez, Larry Finn, Pete Maclean, and Joe Patten fill in on drums.
TTS was also one of the first bands to take advantage of the internet for independent distribution. With the help of MIT Media Lab whiz kid Keith Martin, the Shoe put up a website with MP3s in 1995, and was a top downloaded artist on MP3.com throughout the late 90s. In 1999 TTS was voted "best band on the internet" (and won $20k worth of gear...not too shabby).
As a result the Shoe enjoys a worldwide fanbase, from Italy to Brazil to Russia and South Korea.
In 2005 TTS inked a deal with Pastel Music in South Korea to release a double CD for distribution in east Asia.
Brothers
Two Ton Shoe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Did you really think I'd leave you hanging dry?
Have some faith, my friend.
There's so much more to this than meets the eye.
I fell into a fascination
with all that's beyond our control.
Like a smile, or a heartache,
All my brothers are loved.
All my brothers are safe
from what is wrong.
And what appears to be real
(isn't always real)
What's the point of wrestling with a mask?
I know it's only you down here.
And there is one thing, one thing
so simple, so elusive, so near.
There's no time for your hesitation.
Leave all your senses behind.
You are longing for reason
and it's here by design.
All my brothers are loved.
All my brothers are safe
from what is wrong.
And what appears to be real
(isn't always real)
All my brothers.
[Solo]
There's no time for your hesitation.
Leave all your senses behind.
You are longing for reason
and it's here by design.
The song "Brothers" by Two Ton Shoe is a powerful ode to the bond between friends and the importance of trust and faith in that bond. The song asks questions such as "were you scared at first?" and "did you really think I'd leave you hanging dry?" that seem to be directed at someone who may have doubted the singer's loyalty or felt insecure in their friendship. The singer reassures his friend that there is more to their bond than what may meet the eye, and that he has fallen into a fascination with things that are beyond his control but still have great importance in life, such as the truth of the soul.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "all my brothers are loved, all my brothers are safe from what is wrong," which can be interpreted as a statement of the singer's commitment to protecting and supporting his friends. The lyrics suggest that even though things may not always appear as they seem, the singer believes that there is a greater purpose or design at play, and that his friend can find reason and solace in that.
Overall, "Brothers" is a touching tribute to the power of friendship and the need for trust and faith in those bonds. It encourages listeners to have confidence in the people they care about and to look beyond what is immediately visible to find deeper meaning and truth.
