Wave Goodbye
Ty Segall Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I went to … I went… it too
I wave by all of your other good
… to take away
To wave goodbye, bye bye, bye bye

…your style, bye, bye, bye
Won’t … for long, …
Soon I will find, the piece to get up
To wave goodbye, bye bye, bye bye.

Overall Meaning

Interpreting lyrics can often be difficult as they can mean different things to different people. In Ty Segall Band's song, Wave Goodbye, it seems like the singer is saying goodbye to a person or a way of life. The line "I went to … I went… it too" can be interpreted as the singer trying to fit in or follow the trends of the person or lifestyle they're saying goodbye to. However, they're not able to keep up and are waving goodbye to that aspect of their life.

The line "… to take away" is a bit ambiguous, but it could mean that the singer is taking away a lesson or experience from the person or lifestyle they're leaving behind. They're saying goodbye, but also acknowledging that they've gained something from the situation. The repeated "bye bye" at the end of each stanza emphasizes the finality of the situation and the inevitability of moving on.

Overall, the lyrics of Wave Goodbye seem to be about the process of saying goodbye to something or someone, with the singer acknowledging the influence they've had on their life but also recognizing that it's time to move on.

I went to church and I went to school
I played by all of your mother's rules
But now its time to drink the wine
And wave goodbye, bye bye, bye
So lay us down, side by side
Once and for all
We shall not hide
So now it's time
To taste the guilt
And wave goodbye, bye, bye, bye

Fuck
Yeah.

Saw Ty on Friday in Austin. There's nothing better than hearing 100 people scream, "Bye bye, AHHHHHHHHHHHH," at the same time. It was beautiful.

ty deserves a lot of respect, he has such varied and versatile style, love his sabbath esque shit heaps

@chayseblack4162

Seriously though, he is literally one of my favorite musicians. He's just all over the place and even the full on schizophrenic madness that is the Emotional Muggers was something I got into and fully support despite the mixed feeling for the whole deal

modern music kicks ass actually. You just have to look really hard. I love this side of youtube.

@ThatKidGaming

Ty wants to make people pick up a guitar and make a record themselves. He has Succeeded.

I get that feeling every time I hear his music.

I have had many many musical influences throughout my life. The Beatles were the band that got me into music in the first place. The Who was the band that made me wanna play an instrument on stage (gotta thank Keith for my love for the drums), Mac Demarco gave me the love of songwriting, etc etc. But the only guy who motivated me enough to learn to write, play, and record myself was Ty Segall. No other artist has pushed me as much as he has. And I bet you a lot of other musicians can say the same about him as well. I can think of a better garage rock influencer in recent times.
