I took my troubles down to Madame Rough
You know that gypsy with the gold cap tooth
She's got a pad down at 34th and Vine
Sellin' little bottles of
Love potion #9
I been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said what ya' need is
Love potion #9
She bent down and turn around and gave me a wink
She said I'm gonna' make it up right here in the sink
It smelled like turpentine and looked like India ink
I held my nose I closed my eyes
I took a drink
I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissing everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down at 34th and Vine
He broke my little bottle of
Love potion #9
Love potion #9
Love potion #9
Love potion #9
The lyrics of Tygers of Pan Tang's version of Love Potion No. 9 is a cover of the classic song by The Clovers. It tells the story of a man who is down on his luck in his love life and visits a gypsy named Madame Ruth who sells love potions. Madame Ruth gives the man a bottle of Love Potion No. 9 and he drinks it, not knowing what to expect. The result is a wild night where he kisses everything and everyone in sight, including a police officer who ends up breaking the bottle of Love Potion No. 9.
The song is a playful and fun take on the idea of a magical love potion, which has been a popular idea in popular culture for centuries. The lyrics suggest that love potions can cause unexpected and even outrageous behavior, and that even law enforcement officials are not immune to their effects. The song has a sense of humor about romantic relationships and the foolish things that people do in the name of love.
Overall, Love Potion No. 9 is a lighthearted and entertaining song that captures the fun and folly of romantic love. It is a classic example of the doo-wop style of music, which was popular in the 1950s and 1960s, and has remained a beloved song for generations.

HOLY CRAP!!! I have just stumbled upon this version. INCREDIBLY GOOD.

The Tygers of Pan Tang were quite successful in the album charts. Their version of Love potion no.9 almost made the top 40. Listening to it some 37 years on, I like it more than I did then. Never seen this video before. It's very good, and with more views at the time (esp if on TOTP), it could've pushed the song higher.

1 Its sad seeing them fade into obscurity. They could have been as big as iron maiden.

Yes, you're right. And 'The Cage' charted higher still. Saw them on the Spellbound and Cage tour. They just needed a significant hit single to cement what success they did have. 'Tides' might have done it. We will never know because Rendezvous and Paris by Air were the chosen 45's (from rhe cage).

@fz He was a better rhythm player than lead, he's fairly average. But it's his band, so I get why he wanted to do some solos as well.
