Suffer in Peace
Tyler Farr Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Girl you know I love this town, lived here all my life
Right up ‘til you left me, figured this would be where I’d die
Now I’m thinkin’ ‘bout a U-Haul, selling everything I can’t haul
Get a load of you off my chest move out west, maybe Utah

Find a little cabin in the hills, in the middle of Nowhereville
Irish setter, my old guitar, .22 rifle, and a rod and reel
Read that Bible Mama gave me
Maybe stumble on some words to save me
Think I’d really like the sound of a mountain breeze
And being somewhere where I can suffer in peace

Saw you last Saturday and I just about lost my cool
You were sittin’ in his car at the Tiger Mart by our old high school
Back to square one again, gettin’ over you over again
Girl I need to be somewhere else, ‘cause I don’t trust myself around you and him

I’m thinkin’ cabin in the hills, in the middle of Nowhereville
An Irish setter, my old guitar, a .22 rifle, and a rod and reel
Thumb through that Bible Mama gave me
Maybe stumble on some words to save me
You know I’d really like the sound of a mountain breeze
And being somewhere where I can suffer in peace

No TV, no telephone
Hang this heartache on a rainbow

And find a little cabin in the hills, in the middle of Nowhereville
My Irish setter, an old guitar, .22 rifle, and a rod and reel
Thumb through that Bible Mama gave me
Maybe stumble on some words to save me
You know I’d really like the sound of a mountain breeze
And being somewhere where I can suffer in peace
I can suffer in peace

I can suffer in peace
Suffer in peace

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tyler Farr’s song Suffer in Peace paint a picture of a man who is trying to move on from a heartbreak but cannot seem to do so while living in the town where it all happened. The song begins with the man expressing his love for the town where he’s lived all his life but laments that it’s now the place where he expected to die after his breakup with his partner. He plans to sell everything he can’t take with him and move out west, possibly to Utah, to start afresh. He imagines living in a cabin in the hills, surrounded by nature, with his dog, guitar, rifle, and fishing rod, and reads the Bible his mother gave him for comfort.

The chorus is where the song’s title “Suffer in Peace” is repeated, emphasizing the man’s desire to be far away from the source of his heartbreak so he can suffer alone in peace. He admits that he almost lost his cool when he saw his ex-partner sitting in a car with another man outside their high school. He becomes convinced that he cannot trust himself around her and her new partner and that he needs to be somewhere else. The second verse repeats the chorus, with slight changes to focus on the man’s resolution to find a cabin and disappear into the wilderness to ease his heartache. He ends the song by repeating the chorus and emphasizing his longing to find peace.

Man what you said

Moving on is a lot harder today when the heart don't forget her. The song "THE HEART DON'T LIE" fits. after over 26 years I retired from the military and found a lady that swept me off my feet and decided to move on without giving me a reason. Told me we can still be friends and I told her of course she will always be my best friend just like it was when we was together. I also told her nothing has changed with me the way I feel about her and never will. I was in special forces in the military and I don't know how to give up. That's just the way life goes sometimes and adversity builds character.

I am in that same my 16 years an a beautiful son together I love her still so much

@Deborah Perry well thank you but my heart still belongs to the lady that swept me off my feet. I was told that when you really love someone you will love them for the rest of your life so I am sure I will never be with any other lady if that is true. I can't see how any man could ever love two women at the same time and believe me I love that lady. Thank you for the kind words though and I hope you find that man you are looking for and it last forever.

In time you realize that some people aren't worth the suffering, forget and move on. Know what you are worth!
