Since 2021, Hubbard’s bandmate Brian Kelley signaled an intention to record and release solo music while remaining a part of Florida Georgia Line, with the support of Hubbard. Simultaneously, Hubbard revealed he would occasionally record collaborations as a solo artist as well. The first of these, the single "Undivided" with Tim McGraw, was released on January 13, 2021. He then featured on the song "My Way" with rapper Lathan Warlick. Hubbard and Russell Dickerson were both featured on Thomas Rhett's 2022 promotional single "Death Row".
Hubbard signed a recording contract with EMI Nashville in May 2022 and plans to release a solo album on the label. He released his debut solo single "5 Foot 9" later that month. On November 4, 2022, Hubbard announced that his debut album would be released on January 27, 2023. He co-headlined the halftime show at the 109th Grey Cup in Regina, Saskatchewan alongside Jordan Davis and Josh Ross.

A little out of the blue
Last thing I had in mind the night that I met you
You made a boy from the country (country)
Wanna put down roots
Went from a hundred miles an hour, girl
To stop me in my boots
I'd say I got it bad
Sideways and I'm slippin'
Them curves, they make me crash
Into you is what I am
Leavin's what I ain't
Girl, I think "I love you" is what I've been tryin' to say
By the way (by the way)
(Hey)
By the way, you look good in that dress
Look what He gave you, baby, you blessed
And I'm just over here doin' my best
Not to get too tore up
By the way you got me trippin'
I'd say I got it bad
Sideways and I'm slippin'
Them curves, they make me crash
Into you is what I am
Leavin's what I ain't
Girl, I think "I love you" is what I've been tryin' to say
By the way (ah, yeah)
(By the way)
(By the way)
(By the way)
(By the way)
(By the way)
You made a boy from the country
Wanna put down roots
Went from a hundred miles an hour, girl
To stop me in my boots
By the way you got me trippin'
I'd say I got it bad
Sideways and I'm slippin'
Them curves, they make me crash
Into you is what I am
Leavin's what I ain't
Girl, I think "I love you" is what I've been tryin' to say
By the way (by the way)
(You look good in that dress, look what He gave you, baby, you blessed)
By the way
(And I'm just over here doin' my best, not to get too tore up)
(By the way)
By the way, by the way, by the way, by the way (by the way)
By the way, by the way, by the way, by the way, baby
The lyrics to Tyler Hubbard's song "By The Way" talk about unexpectedly falling in love with someone and struggling to express those feelings. The opening lines reveal that the singer was caught off guard by how quickly and intensely his feelings for this person developed. He compares it to being hit "out of the blue" and explains that he never imagined himself falling for someone like this. However, despite his initial reservations, the person he met made him want to "put down roots" and stay with them for the long haul.
Throughout the rest of the song, Tyler Hubbard describes the physical and emotional impact this person has on him. He refers to "curves" that make him crash and the way they leave him "sideways and slippin'". He expresses his fear of getting too "tore up" over this person and his struggle to find the words to tell them how he feels. Despite all of this, however, the singer ultimately comes to the conclusion that he loves this person and has been trying to express those feelings all along.
Overall, "By The Way" is a song about the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with falling in love unexpectedly. It touches on the excitement, fear, and uncertainty that accompany such an experience, and captures the struggle to put those emotions into words.
