Honestly, 2005-2012 Disney Channel summers were the best summers yet. They promoted the heck out of their content and it was the reason why I watched more Disney Channel than Nickelodeon. i was 11 when this movie came out, now im 21 and i only now see how DEEP this movie is, and the social and historical references. the whole religious fanatism of the dad, the line "if only you could see that poetry could hide in the hood" referencing to the origins of rap/hip-hop in the US and it's marginalization, and the fact that most people in the movie are black instead of putting a bunch of white people to be protagonists in a movie about hip-hop (a music genre that's not exactly our place tbh)... a masterpiece, i can't believe disney actually had the guts to do that. criminally underated.
