Tyler Ward Lyrics

And even though the moment passed me by
I still can't turn away
Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose
Got tossed along the way
And letters that you never meant to send
Get lost or thrown away
And now we're grown up orphans
That never knew their names
We don't belong to no one
That's a shame
But if you could hide beside me
Maybe for a while
And I won't tell no one your name
And I won't tell em' your name
And scars are souvenirs you never lose
The past is never far
Did you lose yourself somewhere out there
Did you get to be a star
And don't it make you sad to know that life
Is more than who we are
We grew up way too fast
And now there's nothing to believe
Reruns all become our history
A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio
And I won't tell no one your name
And I won't tell em' your name
I won't tell em' your name
Mmm, mmm, mmm,
I won't tell em' your name... Ow!
I think about you all the time
But I don't need the same

It's lonely where you are come back down,
And I won't tell em your name

Overall Meaning

Tyler Ward's song "Name" is a poignant ballad about lost dreams and the difficulties of growing up. The opening lines of the song speak to missed opportunities and lost aspirations, "And even though the moment passed me by, I still can't turn away. Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose, got tossed along the way." The song speaks to the idea that life does not always go as planned and that we often lose sight of our goals and dreams as we grow up.

The chorus of the song speaks to the idea of anonymity, "And now we're grown up orphans, that never knew their names. We don't belong to no one, that's a shame. But if you could hide beside me, maybe for a while. And I won't tell no one your name." The singer longs for a connection with someone else who has lost their way, someone who has also had their dreams crumble, and maybe they can both hide for a while together and forget their troubles.

The song continues to explore the theme of lost dreams, speaking to the idea that no matter what happens in life, the past is never far away, and scars are always a souvenir. The singer knows that they will always think about the person they are singing to, but they understand that life moves forward, and people move on. The final lines of the song are an invitation back to the world where the singer resides, hoping for a reconnection, "It's lonely where you are, come back down, and I won't tell em your name."

This is honestly one of my favorite covers from Tyler. His mom shreds on piano! I made a cover of this song a while back. It's def my favorite Goo Goo Dolls song. It really helped me get through a super bad heartbreak last year......but I digress....Awesome cover Tyler! Keep up the greatness!

I wish my mom would look at me with such pride in her eyes as she watched me do something I was passionate about. Not to mention this song is so good. Goo Goo Dolls was such an underrated band. Bring back good music from the 90’s !!! PS your mom is incredibly talented. You two are great together!!

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a fan of your music or your general approach to music, but I respect that you're able to take a great song like this and do it justice. I actually like this cover a lot because there is for sure some special dynamic between you and your mom. She's incredible on the keys, and you seem a lot more genuine when shes playing with you. So, props for that, good luck with your career.

Aw, your mom was my old choir teacher.(: Your voice is absolutely amazing, keep doing what you do. (:
