The two main influences on the band are the Beatles and Black Sabbath, and keyboardist Josh Silver has expressed a love of Pink Floyd--evidence of which can be heard in the atmospherics of his production techniques.
The band arose from the ashes of the band Carnivore and gained popularity with their songs "Black No. 1" and "Christian Woman" from the Bloody Kisses album. The album was the first in Roadrunner Records' catalog to go both gold and platinum. They have successfully toured with Pantera, Life of Agony, and dozens of other established and up-and-coming bands, as well as taking part in Ozzfest. The band had VHS and DVD documentary releases in addition to their CD releases and contributions to movie soundtracks and compilations.
Steele died of sepsis caused by diverticulitis (initially reported as heart failure) on April 14 2010 at the age of 48.

9. We Hate Everyone
Type O Negative Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Leftist Nazis
Point their fingers
Rumours linger
We don't care what you thin
Branded sexist
Want it clearer ?
Check the mirror
We don't care what you think
Lies and slander in vain try to shame us
Riots, protests, violence just makes us famous
TV interviews, free publicity
Increase record sales dramatically
The left they say I'm a fascist
The right calling me communist
Hate hate hate hatred for all - one and all
No matter what you believe
Don't believe in you - and that's true
Some would say that we're biased
Accusations that we are racist
Well, shit comes in all hues
Now this means you
Cause things ain't always like they seem
We hate everyone
We don't care what you think
The lyrics to Type O Negative's "We Hate Everyone" may seem like a bit of a paradox, as the title itself is quite self-explanatory. The song is a commentary on how society labels and brands people, often with little regard for the individual's thoughts or beliefs. In the opening lines, the lyrics describe how both right-wing and left-wing extremists accuse each other of being similar to the opposing group, with fingers pointed and rumors circulated.
The song then goes on to explore how the band members themselves have been labeled as sexist and racist, and how society often tries to shame them with lies and slander. The band members themselves brush off these accusations and state that they do not care about people's opinions of them. The lyrics also make a comment on how violence and protests only serve to bring more attention and publicity to the band, increasing their record sales.
Towards the end of the song, the lyrics state that, despite accusations of bias and racism, the band hates everyone equally, no matter what they look like or what they believe in. The final line, "We don't care what you think," reinforces the idea that the band members are unapologetic for their views and are not interested in conforming to society's expectations.
