The two main influences on the band are the Beatles and Black Sabbath, and keyboardist Josh Silver has expressed a love of Pink Floyd--evidence of which can be heard in the atmospherics of his production techniques.
The band arose from the ashes of the band Carnivore and gained popularity with their songs "Black No. 1" and "Christian Woman" from the Bloody Kisses album. The album was the first in Roadrunner Records' catalog to go both gold and platinum. They have successfully toured with Pantera, Life of Agony, and dozens of other established and up-and-coming bands, as well as taking part in Ozzfest. The band had VHS and DVD documentary releases in addition to their CD releases and contributions to movie soundtracks and compilations.
Steele died of sepsis caused by diverticulitis (initially reported as heart failure) on April 14 2010 at the age of 48.

Day Tripper
Type O Negative Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Got a good reason
For taking the easy way out
Got a good reason
For taking the easy way out now
She was a day tripper
One way ticket yeah
To find out - and I found out
She's a big teaser
She took me half the way there
She's a big teaser
She took me half the way there now
She was a day tripper
One way ticket yeah
It took me so long
To find out
And I found out
If I needed someone to love
Your the one that id be thinking of
If I needed someone
If I had some more time to spend
Then I guess I'd be with you my friend
If I needed someone
Got your number on my wall
And maybe you will get a call from me
If I need someone
Day tripper
Day tripper
Day tripper
I tried to please her
She only played one night stands
I tried to please her
But she only played one night stands now
She was a day tripper
Sunday driver yeah
It took me so long
To find out and I found out
She's so
Heavy heavy heavy
She's so
Heavy heavy heavy heavy
She's so
Heavy
Heavy heavy heavy
She's so
Heavy
Heavy
Heavy
Heavy
The song "Day Tripper" by Type O Negative is a cover of The Beatles' original version. The lyrics describe a woman who is a "day tripper," taking the easy way out and leading the singer on with her teasing nature. Although the singer initially thought he had a chance at a more serious relationship with her, he eventually realizes that she is only interested in one-night stands. Despite this realization, the singer still thinks of her and even hints at the possibility of calling her if he needs someone. The song ends with the repeated chorus of "Day tripper" along with the descriptors "heavy," emphasizing the weight of disappointment and frustration the singer has felt.
One interpretation of the lyrics is that the woman represents the carefree culture of the 1960s that The Beatles were a part of. She embodies the idea of "free love" and the fleeting nature of relationships during that time period. By covering this song, Type O Negative adds their own heavy, brooding sound to the classic tune, perhaps commenting on the darker aspects of the decade's culture.
