The two main influences on the band are the Beatles and Black Sabbath, and keyboardist Josh Silver has expressed a love of Pink Floyd--evidence of which can be heard in the atmospherics of his production techniques.
The band arose from the ashes of the band Carnivore and gained popularity with their songs "Black No. 1" and "Christian Woman" from the Bloody Kisses album. The album was the first in Roadrunner Records' catalog to go both gold and platinum. They have successfully toured with Pantera, Life of Agony, and dozens of other established and up-and-coming bands, as well as taking part in Ozzfest. The band had VHS and DVD documentary releases in addition to their CD releases and contributions to movie soundtracks and compilations.
Steele died of sepsis caused by diverticulitis (initially reported as heart failure) on April 14 2010 at the age of 48.

Too Late
Type O Negative Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
"It won't happen again - forgive me ?"
Time will not heal these wounds
And I'm bleeding because of you
Was everything we had just a joke ?
I've run out of patience, tears and hope
Love does not conquer all
Too late for apologies
In the shadow of the light from a black sun
Frigid statue standing icy blue and numb
Where are the frost giants I've begged for protection ?
I'm freezing
Cold winter winds that chill my heart with sleet & snow
Not from the North come to this glacial abode
But from your dimension cryogenic limbo
I'm freezing
I'm frozen
It's too late
Type O Negative's song "Too Late" is a poignant and moving ballad about the pain and heartache of lost love. The lyrics detail a painful conversation between two people, where one has hurt the other and is attempting to make amends. However, the injured party is beyond forgiveness, as they are bleeding emotionally due to the damage that has been done to them. The song asks whether their love was a farce and points out that love, in fact, does not conquer all. The chorus repeats that it's now too late for apologies.
The following verses evoke powerful and evocative imagery of a bleak and frozen landscape. The singer is standing in the shadow of a black sun, feeling isolated and numb. They reference frost giants, mythical beings known for their protective qualities, but there is no one there to shield them from the cold. The frigid statue represents the singer's emotional state, and they describe how they are frozen and feel trapped in a cryogenic limbo.
Overall, "Too Late" is a powerful song that resonates with anyone who has experienced the pain of lost love. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a desolate landscape and a broken heart, emphasizing the finality of the situation - it's too late to fix what's been done.
