KEYS TO THE KINGDOM
U.N.K.L.E. feat. Gavin Clark Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I shoot it low
Kill the flow
Ruin myself out on the northshore
I make it one
Watch the sun
Sink behind the trees with the keys to the kingdom

I shoot it low
Kill the flow
Ruin myself out on the northshore
I make it one
Watch the sun
Sink behind the trees with the keys to the kingdom

I shoot it high
Let it fly
Bury myself under a blue sky
I see a scheme
Make it clean
Drown in blue rivers and a muffled scream

Call your number wishing I could make amends
And I'm caught in the space between my head and my face again

I'll hit it down
Kill the sound
Ruin myself out on the northbound
I make it one
Kill the sun
Bury my disease with the keys to the kingdom

Call your number wishing I could make amends
And I'm caught in the space between my head and my face again

I shoot it low
(Shoot it low)
Kill the flow
(Kill the flow)
Ruin myself out on the northshore

Call your number wishing I could make amends
And I'm caught in the space between my head and my face again

Call your number wishing I could make amends
And I'm caught in the space between my head and my face again

Overall Meaning

"Keys to the Kingdom" is a song that explores the idea of personal destruction and its repercussions. The lyrics talk about someone who is purposely self-destructive, shooting it low, killing the flow, and ruining themselves on the northshore. However, this person also experiences moments of clarity when they make it one, watch the sun sink behind the trees with the keys to the kingdom. These moments are fleeting, however, as they continue their destructive behavior.

I don't get it... who is Unkle? Is this a band, a producer, or what? I've only recently discovered them, and then when I do "Unkle Radio" on Google Play Music I get all sorts of great music from bands I've never heard of. Can anyone enlighten an oldster who still listens to new music??

@Warriorlover33

UNKLE is James Lavelle, primarily, and other composers. The band is pretty unique with their style, but a lot of
the music is breakbeat, techno, psytrance... hard to pin them down. Most of this style of music is done on computers. There are many programs which allow you to use loops.. extended sections of music, and put them into a song. Logic Pro, being one of these programs. Their songs are typically sparse in verse, with a main message repeated, although some are complete songs, old style... UNKLE drives all over the map. There are too many sub-genres to count. Just think "Techno" until you are able to discern the differences. If you get into a conversation and don't know what you are talking about, expect sarcasm..

nsbd90now Try Spotify. One can choose an artist, and Spotify will create an “artist radio” playlist. One can do a deep dive that way, or listen by album, or by song. Worth the price of admission, and the commercials aren’t obnoxiously repetitive. It also gives the option for paid, commercial-free upgrade, and if one watches one of the commercial-spot videos, it gives the listener a half-hour commercial-free.
