After signing with Epic Records, they released debut album No Pleasantries, produced by Rick Parashar, in 2000. The albums lead singles, "Godless" and "Feel Alive", charted at numbers 5 and 25 respectively on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts. After touring extensively with the likes of Linkin Park, Slipknot, Nickelback, Godsmack and 3 Doors Down, the group went on hiatus in 2002. During that time, Albro, along with other singers, auditioned to become the singer for Velvet Revolver.
In 2004, the group returned, releasing The Heavy, produced by Rick Parashar, on Nitrus Records. Lineup changes followed with both Shirley and Holt departed the group, replaced by bassist Zoltan Bathory and drummer Philippe Mathys while Logan (Deadly Motor Vehicles) was added as the group's second guitarist. During a show, guitarist Weber suffered a seizure and was later diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor. The group briefly performed without Weber before eventually going on another hiatus.
In 2005, Bathory left the group to form the successful metal group Five Finger Death Punch while Mathys is currently the drummer for Hydrovibe.
Walk on Water

She left her coat at home that day
She wore canvas shoes
White canvas shoes
Around her neck
She wore a silver necklace
"It was given to me by my father", she said
She took the back way home
Past the lights at summerhill
Turn left on to the north strand
And on, on towards the sea
He said he was an artist
But he really painted billboards
In large capital letters
Large capital letters
He was telling jokes
But nobody else would listen to him
I saw you that day
Your lips were cherry red
Your legs were crossed
Arms wide open
Your hair was colored gold
And like a field of corn
You were blown by the wind
You were blown by the wind
Walk, walk, walk to the water
Walk, with me awhile
Walk, walk, walk to the roadside
Walk me in a light
A room in the Royal hotel
With sea facing views
A man with a suitcase
Full of things he doesn't need
I'm looking through your window
I'm walking through your doorway
I'm on the outside
Let me in
Let me love you
Let me love you
Let me
Walk, walk, walk to the water
Walk with me yeah
Walk, walk, walk to the roadside
Walk with me awhile
The lyrics of U.P.O.'s "Walk on Water" seem to be describing the chance encounter of two strangers on a street. The singer describes a woman who left her coat at home, wore white canvas shoes and an heirloom necklace given to her by her father. She takes the back way home through the north strand towards the sea. The man she meets is an artist, but he paints billboards and tells jokes that nobody listens to. The singer sees the woman with her cherry red lips, crossed legs, arms wide open, hair golden like a field of corn blown by the wind, and he asks her to walk with him to the water, to walk with him awhile.
Through these lyrics, one can see the poetic and descriptive nature of the songwriter's observations of human interaction. The woman's canvas shoes and necklace are important details which convey character and personality to the listener. Meanwhile, the artist's failed jokes and unfulfilling job as a billboard painter make for a melancholic character study. The request for a walk towards the sea symbolizes an immersive experience with another person, involving a connection with nature and each other.
