Jaks
U.S. Bombs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I ain't goin to work today yea why not?
'cause id rather work on breakin my own bones with some style ya know
Go 45 M.P.H Go down hill on a skate there's a
Code that ya better know and there's A style & that's to skate
We skate in packs our flag is
Jaks there's always time to race only a fool has a pool
And keeps it full only a trader won't tradehis pools
[chorus]
There I am skatin' solo down 9th Ave.
A couple bikers pull up one on each side
They're wavin back and forth they try to lock me in
And here comes a bus these scumbags want me dead I know they want my head
A jak pulls up, pulls a drumstick out of his pocket

Sticks it in the spokes, and the biker slams don't laugh
'cause he was a jak we gotta go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of U.S. Bombs's song "Jaks" are about the freedom and danger of skateboarding. The singer in the song chooses not to go to work and instead focuses on breaking their own bones while skating. The lyrics celebrate the speed and style of skating downhill, but also acknowledge the code and danger involved. The chorus describes a situation where the singer is skating alone on 9th Ave. and is confronted by bikers who try to harm them. A member of their skateboarding group, the Jaks, comes to the rescue by using a drumstick to sabotage one of the bikers' bikes.

The song highlights the rebellious and anti-establishment nature of skateboarding culture, as well as the bonds of loyalty and brotherhood formed within it. By choosing not to go to work and instead pursuing his passion for skating, the singer embraces a lifestyle that prioritizes personal freedom and self-expression over societal expectations. The Jaks serve as a symbol of this alternative way of life, where danger and risk-taking are embraced rather than avoided.
