Oh god.... thee memories this brings back. I remember getting my first "Real" call home and my mom sobbing her eyes out. She said she was so scared for me when I called yelling at her. She knows now that ALL Marines recruited have to do this very same thing. For the longest time she thought it was only me. I am glad I have such a loving and protective mom, but now it's time for me to love and protect, and I will now and always do just that.

@pep yes, his recruiter told us prior to his ship out day that he was going to be given a phone call. The Drill instructor are told they only need to be able to say the names clearly enough. That let us know he's ok. Anything more was just overkill. So when my son called us, all we heard was, "hello this is Recruit Mcgill>>>>>Chaos<<<<!!. Lol we knew he was in good hands.

I’m an about to be recruit for the Navy and I was a little scared at first after seeing the “Making a sailor” documentary. My friends that went through boot camp, told me that the first 2 weeks is usually the most stressful because of the processing and shit. The rest of the boot camp (as long as you’re listening) is simple. So I’m not as anxious anymore.

Think I'd rather have shortened it even more. This is recruit (service number) at paris island. Goodbye. Gets you into the esprit de corps a little quicker. The only family you have is your DI and support channel. Anything not a marine is.. well.. not a marine. Deal with them as ordered. One of those pesky general orders... never give away your number troops or location. what part of never do you not understand, marine..

It (theoretically, not implying that it happened) takes only one fart bomb sent to the Marine Corps to have them add the "do not send bulky items" clause.

For the most part, they are children. Most Marine recruits are fresh out of high school, not even 18y/o yet. I joined the Army at 23 in 2004, and most of the soldiers I trained with were older than me. The Marines is a young persons game.

2. They found out my parents weren’t related until after their wedding.
