In a Little While
U2 feat. Brandon Flowers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Surely you'll be mine
In a little while, I'll be there
In a little while
This hurt will hurt no more
I'll be home, love
When the night takes a deep breath
If I crawl, if I come crawling home
Will you be there?
In a little while
I won't be blown by every breeze
Friday night running to Sunday on my knees
That girl, that girl she's mine
Well I've known her since
Since she was
A little girl with Spanish eyes
When I saw her first in a pram they pushed her by
Oh uh my, my how you've grown
Well it's been, it's been a little while
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Slow down my beating heart
A man dreams one day to fly
A man takes a rocket ship into the skies
He lives on a star that's dying in the night
And follows in the trail, the scatter of light
Turn it on
Turn it on, you turn me on
Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love
Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love
Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love
The lyrics to U2 feat. Brandon Flowers's song In A Little While are about the longing for a past love and the hope for a future reunion. The first verse speaks of the singer's certainty that the loved one will return to him after a while. The phrase "this hurt will hurt no more" suggests that the relationship has gone through some turmoil, but the singer is now confident that they will overcome it. The second verse is addressed to the loved one, with the singer asking if they will still be there when he crawls back to their embrace. The third verse reminisces about the time when the singer first met the loved one, as a little girl with Spanish eyes. The final verses speak of the yearning for love and the desire to slow down the beating heart in its pursuit.
The lyrics have a melancholic yet hopeful tone, evoking the bittersweet feeling of waiting for someone you love. The use of imagery, such as the night taking a deep breath and the scattering trail of light, adds to the poetic quality of the lyrics. The repetition of "slow down my beating heart" highlights the intensity of the singer's emotions, while the use of falsetto in the chorus conveys a sense of vulnerability.

In a little while
Soon, very soon
Surely you'll be mine
I'll have you with me

I'll come to you in a little while
In a little while
Soon, very soon
This hurt will hurt no more
This pain will soon go away
I'll be home, love
I'll be with you soon
When the night takes a deep breath
When everything is quiet at night
And the daylight has no air
And the day is hot, with no cooling breeze
If I crawl, if I come crawling home
If I have to beg for your forgiveness
Will you be there?
Will you take me back?
I won't be blown by every breeze
I won't be swayed by anything
Friday night running to Sunday on my knees
Living life recklessly without thinking
That girl, that girl she's mine
The girl I love
Well I've known her since
I've known her for so long
Since she was
When she was still
A little girl with Spanish eyes
A young girl with captivating eyes
When I saw her first in a pram they pushed her by
When I first saw her, she was just a baby in a stroller
Oh uh my, my how you've grown
Wow, you've grown so much
Well it's been, it's been a little while
It's been some time since I last saw you
Slow down my beating heart
Calm me down
A man dreams one day to fly
Every man dreams of flying high
A man takes a rocket ship into the skies
He takes a spaceship to the sky
He lives on a star that's dying in the night
He lives on a dying star in the dark
And follows in the trail, the scatter of light
And follows the trail of light with scattered stars
Turn it on
Switch on the light
Turn it on, you turn me on
Switch on the light, and you excite me
Slowly, slowly love
Love slowly
Slow down my beating heart
Calm me down
Slowly, slowly love
Love slowly
Slow down my beating heart
Calm me down
Slowly, slowly love

That Brandon's voice is pure magic live.
Shervinator
I wish he still sang like this.

Had the pleasure of being at the filmed Albert Hall gig. Bling still sends shivers down my spine. And he got his timing spot on, getting back to the stage. What a guy. Even my mum loves Brandon Flowers. And she doesn’t even like my dad, and they’ve been married 50 years 😂😂
Wendy Stevens
@Shervinator Like what exactly? I have seen TK 3 times in the last 2 months and his voice is EXTRORDINARY live - it's even better than this now - The man has a 4 OCTAVE RANGE and its clear as a bell.
Anthony
I like that Brandon doesn't just do a karaoke style here, he keeps his own style in his take.
Alexandria Ocasio-Smollett
What do you mean? It’s in the same key with the same lyrics at the same timing with the same pitch. Literally the only thing that is different is his timbre(which is going to happen with anyone who would sing any song).
Anthony
@Alexandria Ocasio-Smollett he's staying faithful to his own style with the vibrato, belting and the little "decorations" he has as part of his vocals. It's not just him trying to be Bono
Helena Brunne
Doesn't get any better than this. Two of the greatest from the two current best bands in the world.
Ian Lawrence
I would have actually lost my mind at this concert. Brandon on stage with these legends is something to behold.
