The Longest Day
USMA Cadet Glee Club Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Many men came here as soldiers
Many men will pass this way
Many men will count the hours
As they live the longest day

Many men are tired and weary
Many men are here to stay
Many men won't see the sunset
When it ends the longest day

The longest day, the longest day
This will be the longest day
Filled with hopes and filled with fears
Filled with blood and sweat and tears

Many men, the mighty thousands
Many men to victory

Marching on, right into battle
In the longest day in history

To all our American kinfolk across the pond, WE, your "Brother's in Arms" salute you, for all your help throughout the years. May God bless America and my homeland the United Kingdom.

This is one of the most moving renditions of this piece that I know of.  I was 11 years old and remember when the "D Day"
landing was reported.  The logistics of the landing still awes me.

Many thanks to the US Army and especially to all those soldiers who lost their lives for us. Thanks to them, we live in freedom and peace for nearly 70 years. From a Belgian citizen grateful.

Chills. I have chills throughout my body and soul listening to this rendition. Perhaps because I've seen the movie, "The Longest Day," perhaps because my dad fought in WWII, perhaps because my husband and son were in the Army, perhaps because I am a sappy, but fierce, patriot. Whatever the reason, I cannot properly thank the US military - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard - for all they do to protect our country. "The Greatest Generation" saved the world from destruction. Thank you to those brave souls.
