Milkman's Son
Ugly Kid Joe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Let the water come and flood the ground,
Burn a hole into this auburn sky,
I only wanna be walking by your side.
When I see tomorrow I see you there,
When I look around I see you everywhere,
Your face is etched into my mind,
I'm feeling like the milkman's son.
Let your dark spirits fly away,
Come again but you won't count again,
Spend the last time of my worthless life,
I only wanna be walking by your side.
When I see tomorrow I see you there,
When I look around I see you everywhere,
Your face is etched into my mind,
And when it's all said and done,
I'm feeling like the milkman's son.
The lyrics of "Milkman's Son" by Ugly Kid Joe are quite introspective, with themes of love, loss, and feelings of worthlessness. The opening lines, "Let the burning bridges tumble down, Let the water come and flood the ground," suggest a desire to let go of the past and start anew. The singer then expresses his love and devotion to someone, saying "Burn a hole into this auburn sky, I only wanna be walking by your side." The use of color ("auburn") suggests a certain intensity and passion in the singer's desire.
The second verse continues the theme of the person being all-consuming in the singer's life. "When I see tomorrow I see you there, When I look around I see you everywhere, Your face is etched into my mind," the singer says, further emphasizing the all-consuming nature of this love. The final line, "I'm feeling like the milkman's son," is something of an enigma, but it seems to suggest feelings of inferiority or unworthiness. The milkman's son is perhaps seen as a lowly figure, and the singer may be feeling like he doesn't quite measure up to the object of his affection.
Overall, the song is a poignant exploration of love and the ways in which it can transform and consume us, for better or worse. The chorus, with its catchy melody and repetition of key phrases, is especially effective in capturing the emotional heart of the song.
