Ready to form another band after a five-year hiatus from music, Hailey went to see Grey perform with Mellowdrone. "I had been waiting to meet someone who had her talent and drive," Hailey says. "After hanging out a couple of times, it was obvious we were a great match." For her part, Grey says she was ready to leave behind session work and focus on a creative collaboration. "I've wanted to write and produce my own music, but was too busy touring as a background performer."
The result of their efforts was the EP I See Red, which was recorded over several months in a bedroom at Grey's Los Angeles home. ("Vocals were done in the bathroom," Hailey says, "it was very sexy.") Produced by Grey and mixed by Al Clay (who has worked with the Pixies, Frank Black, and Blur), I See Red, with its laser-sharp melodies, ethereal harmonies, lush string arrangements, and muscular drums, is a great introduction to the duo.
Less than a year after the release of I See Red, Uh Huh Her will unveil their full-length debut, the accessibly melodic Common Reaction, on August 19th. Produced by Al Clay … it was recorded in January at Clay’s L.A. studio, a world away from Grey’s bathroom …. The effort is an extension of the band’s previous musical foundation, as evidenced by focused tracks like "Not a Love Song," "Wait Another Day" and "Explode."
"We wrote a lot of it before we went in the studio, but we wound up re-cutting everything," Grey says of the 11-track album. "We wanted to make a commercially appealing record. The songs aren't specifically poppy but appeal to a wide variety of people."
"Sometimes the song just calls for it and you can't fight the pop," Hailey laughs. "I like that it's eclectic and not just one thing. That bores me in a record. We never wanted this band to be small."
Common Reaction is now available.

Tasty feeling
Here is waiting...
What belongs it might be erased
Today is still briefing out
I will be waiting
And if you change what you are
God, I can't
Oooh, you captured it all good
You make me weak
And ooooh, you captured it awful
You make me...
I belong to you and all my sins
And maybe that's the reason
I belong to you and all our sins
And I don't regret it
One step 'til the end of the world
... You're faster than a bullet
One step to the edge of the world and...
You're faster than a bullet
Tell me is it real or is it fake?
Even what you were, I can't mistake
... And I know there is
All the... I walked with you
And what we said
All the lies you're telling them
I'm a lonely sin as you and me
It could be what it may
2 steps to the edge of the world
And it makes it better
I will listen
One step closer to the edge of the world
And I won't admit it
One step closer to the edge of the world
And I won't admit it
Faster than a bullet
One step closer to the edge of the world
And I won't admit it
Faster than a bullet
One step closer to the edge of the world
And I won't admit it
Faster than a bullet
One step closer to the edge of the world
And I won't admit it
But we did it
Faster than a bullet
The lyrics to Uh Huh Her's "Bullet" are full of imagery, suggesting a tumultuous relationship that is both exhilarating and dangerous. The opening lines, "Alone you wake up, tasty feeling, here is waiting," create a sense of anticipation and eagerness for the other person to respond. The singer is willing to wait, even if they are changing into something they may not be comfortable with. The chorus emphasizes the dichotomy of the relationship, the way it both captivates and hurts the singer. The repeated line, "Faster than a bullet," evokes danger and speed, suggesting the relationship is careening out of the singer's control.
The middle section of the song begins with a question about reality, as if the singer is trying to figure out whether their feelings for the other person are true or not. They acknowledge the possibility of lies and fake appearances, but ultimately embrace the idea that they belong to the other person, even with all their flaws and sins. The closing section repeats "one step closer to the edge of the world" several times, driving home the urgency and riskiness of the relationship.
Overall, "Bullet" is a song that captures the emotional rollercoaster of a volatile relationship. The lyrics hint at intense passion, but also the potential for deep hurt and betrayal.
