Ready to form another band after a five-year hiatus from music, Hailey went to see Grey perform with Mellowdrone. "I had been waiting to meet someone who had her talent and drive," Hailey says. "After hanging out a couple of times, it was obvious we were a great match." For her part, Grey says she was ready to leave behind session work and focus on a creative collaboration. "I've wanted to write and produce my own music, but was too busy touring as a background performer."
The result of their efforts was the EP I See Red, which was recorded over several months in a bedroom at Grey's Los Angeles home. ("Vocals were done in the bathroom," Hailey says, "it was very sexy.") Produced by Grey and mixed by Al Clay (who has worked with the Pixies, Frank Black, and Blur), I See Red, with its laser-sharp melodies, ethereal harmonies, lush string arrangements, and muscular drums, is a great introduction to the duo.
Less than a year after the release of I See Red, Uh Huh Her will unveil their full-length debut, the accessibly melodic Common Reaction, on August 19th. Produced by Al Clay … it was recorded in January at Clay’s L.A. studio, a world away from Grey’s bathroom …. The effort is an extension of the band’s previous musical foundation, as evidenced by focused tracks like "Not a Love Song," "Wait Another Day" and "Explode."
"We wrote a lot of it before we went in the studio, but we wound up re-cutting everything," Grey says of the 11-track album. "We wanted to make a commercially appealing record. The songs aren't specifically poppy but appeal to a wide variety of people."
"Sometimes the song just calls for it and you can't fight the pop," Hailey laughs. "I like that it's eclectic and not just one thing. That bores me in a record. We never wanted this band to be small."
Common Reaction is now available.

Slipping past the great divide
It chases over bridges
Spins me out of my own mind
Hollow is how you like it
What you see is what you get
Say you love me again
I am not singing a love
Singing a love song
Cause love is a game to you now
Watch just to see how long
Oh I want to fall away and
Waste another day
Cause love is a game to you now
Watch just to see how long
I see I disappoint you
Why don't you find another threat?
This isn't what you thought now
If you fall, won't you tell me in my ear?
You're here to waste their time dear
But you can't waste mine
Oh say you love me again
But you never do (yeah)
I am not singing a love
Singing a love song
Cause love is a game to you now
Watch just to see how long
Oh I want to fall away and
Waste another day
Cause love is a game to you now
Watch just to see how long
But if you can't save love anyway
You'll love again
Cause love is a game to you now
Watch just to see how long
I want to fall away and
Waste another day
Cause love is a game to you now
Watch just to see how long
The lyrics to Uh Huh Her's song "Not a Love Song" describe a relationship that has lost its passion and meaning. The scene described is one of despair, where the singer is slipping further away from her partner and losing her sense of self in the process. The bridge imagery and references to being spun out of her own mind suggest a feeling of being lost and out of control. The partner, on the other hand, seems to be content with a hollow, superficial relationship that lacks any meaningful connection. The repeated plea to "say you love me again, but you never do" highlights the disconnect between the two characters.
The chorus of the song emphasizes that the singer is not singing a love song, because for her, love has become nothing more than a game. She feels like she's being watched and judged, and that her partner is only interested in seeing how long it takes for her to fall. The line, "If you fall, won't you tell me in my ear?" suggests that the partner is waiting for her to fail, rather than supporting her. Ultimately, the singer wants to "fall away and waste another day", because she recognizes that love has become a futile endeavor in this relationship. The final verse suggests that the partner will move on to another meaningless relationship, while the singer is left to pick up the pieces and try to find herself again.

I can't come to grips with the fact that Leisha is more amazing than I realized. Like, I've watched every season of The L Word a billion times, and finally I decided to look into some of the actors... I absolutely love this girl now. I can't deal. She's perfect. This is just too perfect. Common Reaction. That's perfection.
