Formed in London, Ontario, the band consisted of Alan Glen on lead vocals and banjo, John Glen on mandolin and tin whistle, Paul Meadows on fiddle and harp, Damian Morrissy on bass guitar, Doug Watt on guitar and Marty Coles on drums later replaced by ex Gurriers drummer Patrick McLaughlin. The band took its name from uisce beatha, the traditional Irish name for whisky (literally "water of life" in Irish Gaelic).

The band's best-known song was "Drinking with the Lord", a parody of the Christian hymn "Lord of the Dance" as a drinking song.

The band released two albums as Uisce Beatha, and were a popular draw on the Canadian folk festival circuit. They were sued in 1997 by a Scottish distillery over rights to the band name, and subsequently changed their name to Red. They released one album under that name, but subsequently broke up.

Skin bounce-back time less than a second, age 40. I feel so young 😀. Thank you very much for getting people to understand how the body works. I have now lived without sugar, cookies, candy etc for 1,5 years and also switched to real butter and sea salt. Also been exercising about twice a week for 5 years. This year also kept alcohol away since a close person died because of drinking.

On a side note, remember than if you take a B complex, well the riboflavin, it gives yellow urine. So, you could be super hydrated, but the yellow is from that, so maybe don't drink a load more. Just thought i'd put that out there. Hopefully helps someone reading this 🚽 💛

This is very true. I take non fortified nutritional yeast along with bee pollen in the morning first thing and yes it causes a rich yellow, but throughout the day it equalizes.

Thank you Stan. I'm 52 and the bounce-back is pretty much 1 second or less. Based on other similar experiences in the comments, anecdotally it appears the test is based heavily on hydration or other factors and not much by age. I do a lot of strength training so I have been following a "half ounce per pound lean body weight" minimum for years. For me that is ~100oz and I can usually reach it. Currently I am working on incorporating your keto and fasting advice while scaling back the weights for a bit. I am trending the right way in only a week so I am super thankful for your expertise and hope you get the recognition you deserve.

49, about 1 1/2 seconds on the pinch test. I focused on my health, quit drinking (3 years and 6 months sober!), eating healthier, lost 90 lbs, went off BP and Cholesterol meds, my Dr told me I had the health of someone in their early 30s. Many people confuse water with fluid (regarding bodily fluids). As you explained, there’s no pure water contained in the human body. So I just did the skin pinch test, and my skin bounced back immediately upon release. I’m a 39-year-old, well-hydrated, healthy specimen (if I do say so myself lol)!

Another great one ! Thanks. Could you do a presentation on the week prior to a COLONOSCOPY ? I'm committed LC / Keto and have been for years. However, I'm not great at fasting and even if I did a 48 hour fast prior to the procedure, I'm not sure what I'm allowed to include. You said distilled water will pull minerals from the body however, research shows it only pulls inorganic minerals. Normally I don’t post but distilled water is something that my family have been drinking for years and we’ve never felt better.

i wasn't aware excessive consumption of sugar could lead to kidney stones. i think it was on one of your videos about intermittent fasting went through the issues of sugar intake and at least three of the issues were true for me and for about two-three days now i decided to cut out one of my areas of excessive sugar intake which was my daily coffee was usually way over loaded with sugar so I decided to cut it down to no sugar at all.

I think atm i'm in a bit of a sugar crash/withdrawal stage but one day i gave in and dunked a heap of sugar in it and felt horrible for it but now i'm slowly getting used to no sugar in the coffee at all.

Thank you Doc for your very resourceful video once again. I and my family are on 2MAD (1:00 pm&8:00 pm) and sometimes OMAD. We switched to drinking mineral water from the store to replace the minerals and electrolytes that we probably loose due fasting? Now I hear from you that the activated carbon filters can retain minerals from the tap water and am considering buying one of those. Many companies advertise their filters, but I did not listen to anyone of them so far. I hope am moving in the right direction.

Two summers ago I was seeing a Doctor and I was telling her the dehydration symptoms and she never once told me I was possibly dehydrated. Thanks to Doctor Sten and Youtube I learned what my problem was. Now I drink a lot more water and I pass the skin test and I no longer feel dizzy or have morning headaches. I also learned that if you dont drink enough water your body will still wake you up to urinate because your body is cleansing itself at night. Give it the water so your body works effectively. I found I rest easier and fall back asleep faster.

I've had (given birth to) 20 Kidney Stones and have 3 more cooking. I describe it like a molten red hot Chinese throwing star ripping its way through the center of a straight pin. Glad you mentioned the Adrenal stress making a mineral imbalance. That could greatly account for stones that grew to 1" diameter during the most indescribably stressful years that anyone could bear.

Great information. In my opinion when it comes to urine color there's another factor -- it's going to be darker if you've eaten a lot of animal protein. One may argue that a higher protein intake requires one to drink more water, but I think the amount of water required to have pale yellow urine, after eating a steak, would be excessive.

I am 52 years old and the pinch test took me a little more than 1 second. I make sure I drink 2 coffee cups of water as soon as I wake up in the morning, and at least one coffee cup right before bed. A full coffee cup equals about 1.5 cups of water. 3 times 1.5 is 4.5 cups - which equals the amount the body excretes ( 1 Liter) so I suppose I ain't hydrated.

I have been low-carb (or rather avoiding empty carbs) for probably 7 years now. I went from 210 pounds to 160 pounds in 6 months. It amazed me how much water was retained by the adipose deposits. And I am relatively skinny, so all that fat was around my organs and in my face, hands and feet. I was probably on the road to a heart attack. Now all my blood markers are excellent -- and my blood cholesterol dropped from 326 to 258, while eating 120+ grams of fat per day and lots of dietary cholesterol.

I did the Skin Turgor pinch test and I got nearly instantaneous (basically falls back into place within a second) and yet I'm 40! Guess that's a good sign.

Don’t use a scale but I was a size 12 now comfortable in an 8 Jean..

Did you mean to say 8 glasses is gallon of water? If we're saying a glass is 8oz, it would be a half gallon. Thank you for the in depth discussion of water and how it effects us; I always learn a thing or two from your lectures. I having been drinking about two quarts of water a day for about 6 months. I was having heart palpitations which eventually subsided with the water and modest weight loss. Generally I only drink water, with the exception of two cups of coffee in the morning. I'm 63 and 100 lbs overweight and on a low carb/keto diet. I actually pay close attention to the look of my urine and find it quite dark in the morning and slowly lightening towards the end of the day. If I don't drink my usual two quarts it won't lighten as much, which makes me think this is a good amount for me. I'm curious too how much blood volume plays a role since an obese person has quite a bit more than someone with a normal body composition. Thanks for the video.

Skin tested at less than a second. 43 years old with Ankylosing spondylitis and going at it without doctors or their drugs. From 80 pounds with a resting heart rate of 140. To 125 pounds with a resting heart rate of 80 in the 4 years I've been away from a doctor's care. Thanks for the help.

Like you , doc. Bounces back immediately - half my age or so . Just fasted 61 hours . Had to give it a rest - too hot . Day after 20 + hours . Getting there slowly but surely . When I reach a body fat % of 10 -15 I’m home . Gotta best the insulin resistance . Thank you my friend .
Fasting is indeed a lifestyle - if it is intermittent . As you probably know the record is , I believe , 382 days.

I just listened to your segment on dehydration. Wow! It helped me to realize about my palpitations. I had a problem with dehydration, but now I use my water daily. I like lemon water with pink salt to start my day. I use to consume caffeine all day with coffee or coca- cola and had abnormal heart rhythms daily. You talk about panic attacks all the time....coffee, cola, chocolate, . Now I understand why I always went after chips or pretzels.. I went after salts and not sweets.. Now, I drink water and I use pink salt. I was drinking to much water, but hated the bathroom runs so I cut back. Not to mention nighttime runs. That caffeine gave me the worst case of incontinence. I now follow the Lord's word, "nothing in excess, in moderation.... Here I am at 70, I no longer have night time issue's. Thank you Mr. Ekberg, I pray you continue educating us. " You're the greatest". Remember Jackie Gleason ?...Again, thank you..☺

My late father-in-law destroyed his kidneys by drinking too much water over years of time. This is what his doctors told us. Like everybody else, he had a bottle of water he was continuously drinking from. He did not tolerate dialysis and was dead in six months.

I found while following keto i got more dehydration issues, not only lightheadedness but also headaches, what helped immediately was a tea spoon of salt. this took away headache and dizziness within 15 minutes. taking a tea spoon of (sea) salt every morning kept dehydration away. 👍

I won't complain... I'm 55 and the BB is 4-5 seconds... 🤗 But I'll add that in 04/20 I was 315lbs and today I am 218lbs and IF every 6-8 weeks for 96hrs to encourage autophagy to help with the extra skin to help tighten and firm it up.

EDIT 07/22/21: I did the above pinch test first thing after waking up and before any morning hydration. After waiting till after... The results were 1-2 seconds BB. So looks like I should wait till I replenish my fluids lost while sleeping...

Age 60 I was 320lbs, now 2yrs keto and IF age 62, 190 lbs off 8 meds. Still work in progress. Lots of leftover skin , well not that bad cuz fasting 144 hrs a few times but best every other day worked miracles autophagy.

Hydration plays an important part in my life. Back in my early days in the Military and working undergound in Deep Level Gold Mining, I have experienced serious thirst. I go nowhere without water.

Hey Dr. Ekberg! I have a question, as a woman, Should I do IF five times per week? (M to F) and eat three meals or weekend? Or should I do IF still but changing my pattern?

I'm quite insulin resistant still, My weight is in the normal range, I do have a belly even if it's slowly shrinking. I've been lowering my carbs slowly. From a normal 6 meal diet I cut my eating times to 3 and lowered to 90-100 carbs per day... Now currently on 50-60 carbs per day or slightly less. (And trying healthier things to keep reaching my goal for ketosis.)

I do low impact exercise like walking and yoga... What would you recommend?

Dear Dr. Ekberg, is there a connection between IBS and dehydration? Or maybe between food allergies and dehydration.
When I eat the wrong kind of food, I get intestinal symptoms, plus other symptoms that seem to be related to dehydration: itchy eyes and skin, increased diuresis, tiredness...

Excellent content & presentation. The slides are very comprehensive and well prepared. For us to take a snap of each slide let complete slide stay a while. Conclusion of the talk can be a consolidated slide so that essence of the complete talk can be captured by us. One important point is don't drink water 20 minutes before eating, don't drink while eating & don't drink water until 2 hours of eating. One can have a gulp of water if situation demands.
Water gets absorbed in 20 minutes, when stomach is empty, doesn't need digestion process. Best thing to do , drink water only when stomach is devoid of any food.

Repeatedly for me from highest pinched up to flat = 3 seconds. And I’m (cough) 57. So biologically…under two thirds my actual age.😀 I am overweight though and for months been on a LCHF diet….So plenty of room for improvement.

It took me a while to realize that I needed magnesium and potassium after being on a keto diet. I was cramping big time, about six months in.
One day of proper supplements and I've been fine since.

I was on keto without interruption for 3 months. Then after a cheat day i gained 2kg of weight, which I then lost again soon after I get back to strict keto. This led me to conclusion that even when i was highly fat adapted, my glycogen stores were much lower during keto :-/ ....which saddens me a little... because of training potential..

Friend took my blood sugar test last night after two howls of curry and rice and two muffins. 147 reading. Pretty high. Fasted all night then at midday next day was only 80. Which I believe is good, normal. So simple to avoid high blood sugar it would seem.👍😎

Since I've been feeding my cat a more species-appropriate diet (basically, the best canned food I can find) she never drinks water anymore. I'm pretty sure she was getting a ton of excess carbs before. I also don't open-feed her now. Feeling guilty, I decided to change her diet after my health improved so much from eating LCHF/IF. She's about 20, and seems to have a lot of energy and vitality again.

I drink and cook with distilled water only for over 20 years. Love it. But I also take sodium, magnesium, potassium and trace minerals from better source than regular spring water. My skin pinch test is less than a half of a second at age about 50.
