Mutter
Ulrich Roski Lyrics

Christine heißt das Schiff
Das Glück sucht' ich auf beiden
Auf beiden ging es schief
Sie war 'ne süße Puppe
Wenn auch nicht mehr ganz frisch
Und hier auf der Schaluppe
Riecht's auch sehr stark nach Fisch
Oh, Mutter, ach Mutter
Bei dir war immer alles in Butter
Doch hier auf der Christine
Ist alles bloß in Margarine
Mein Vater war ein Jäger
Und schoss auf Hirsch und Reh
Doch ich schoss auf Christine
Und dann ging ich zur See
Ich starre in die Wellen
Und dabei wird mir klar
Dass es in beiden Fällen
Ein Schuss in den Ofen war
Oh, Mutter, ach Mutter
Bei dir war immer alles in Butter
Doch hier auf der Christine
Ist alles bloß in Margarine
Das Schiff ächzt in den Nähten
Die Planken wanken morsch
Und alles ist voll Gräten
Von Kabeljau und Dorsch
Ich glaub' es wird bald sinken
Hinab ins tiefe Meer
Oh, mög'st auch du ertrinken
Dann seh'n wir uns um so eh'r
Oh, Mutter, ach Mutter
Wo immer ich auch sink, mit diesem Kutter
Ob bei Honkong oder Kalkutta
Mein letztes Wort heißt immer: Mutter!
Mutter, ach Mutter, oh Mutter
Bei dir war immer alles in Butter
(Oh, mama mia, mama mia)
Mutter, ach Mutter, oh Mutter
Bei dir war immer alles in Butter
(Oh, baby, baby, baby, oh)
Mutter, ach Mutter
(Mama, mama)
Bei dir war immer alles in Butter
(Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba)
Mutter, ach Mutter
Bei dir war immer alles in Butter . . .
The song "Mutter" by Ulrich Roski tells the story of a young man who goes to sea on the ship named Christine. He compares the ship to a girl, a "sweet doll," who may not be fresh anymore. He seeks happiness on both the ship and with the girl, but everything goes wrong. The ship is in bad shape and smells like fish, while the girl is not interested in him. The man reflects on his life choices and realizes that both shooting at the girl and going to sea on this ship were mistakes. He is now on a sinking ship and wishes that his mother was there for him like she always was when he was young.
The lyrics are filled with metaphors and comparisons between the ship and the girl, highlighting the man's disappointment and dissatisfaction with both situations. The use of the word "Mutter" throughout the song emphasizes the longing for a motherly figure during tough times. The repetition of the phrase "Bei dir war immer alles in Butter" suggests that the young man longs for the comfort and security he felt with his mother.
