Ultime Assaut formed in December 1988 from the remains of Spartiates. They shared a drummer from Nouvelle Croisade. The original line-up consisted of Jean-Jacques on vocals, Fabrice Lauffenburger on guitar, Jean-Christophe "Christophe" Bru on bass and Thierry on drums. Jean-Jacques left the band to be replaced by Thomas in 1989, who in turn was replaced by Robert Ottaviani. Oz would serve as their last vocalist. Although Thomas was slated to record with them on their first and only album, they would replace him with Robert Ottaviani whose vocals made it to the record.

After playing a few shows, the band finally called it quits in 1992.

What everybody fails to mention is the incredible effect our banking system has on our Economical behavior!

We actually have to serve a Black hole (with out need) by Paying the Banksters, for them Creating Money out of thin air,
that way they suck up all we do, thats why Economy has to grow exponentially because we have a exponentially growing Dept witch we have been told to owe them and have to pay it back with interest upon interest.

That is why Products have to be designed in a way, that they do not last to long, they call it "planed obsolescence".
We have been maid to serve this Dept and its not Justified morally, as they claim that we rightfully owe them something they simply print up in unlimited amounts.
They do that, simply, by our leaders Granting them the Power to do so!

Now those who don't do the Math, will definitely don't understand the gravity of my comment, as it is Mind bending how much they suck up from us every day.
Our Economy would look so different if we where to take that Power from them, if we don't we can not even realize any reform as long as we have to feed this ever growing Black hole we will have to grow every year bigger then the Year before ore the whole thing collapses.
They Literally have the power to by up the whole Globe, with the Power to Create money out of thin air.

Unless we start to understand: "The emperor is Naked"
Unless we understand we do not rightfully owe them this money and call it of!
No Change can be sustained!

One has to understand what exponential growth means to grasp what i am trying to say here!

We do not grow that much because we need more stuff, as we don't, we are actually forced to grow that much because of the foundation of our Banking system.
If that would be changed in to a Real Honest Monetary system we could actually afford to grow much slower ore even stagnate with out any Problem for the Market.
If we do not change that, no change can truly be maid.
We live in a Rigged System, period!!

From what I recall of the movie, every company they listed was a publicly traded corporation and not a national oil company. The two biggest producers in the world are Saudi-aramaco and Russia's national oil company (with a combined output of over 20mboe/d). Petrobras is about to start a huge off-shore oil project, Venezuela has HUGE reserves of extra heavy crude and a national oil company, Iran, Kuwait, UAE etc all have national oil companies. There is NOTHING we can do about them

My childhood friend works in the environmental research department at George Mason University. He studies why some people still do not believe in human caused global warming despite overwhelming evidence that we are causing these huge problems ... it appears that people simply cannot see their own denial patterns ... which his probably why a blind spot is called a blind spot ... sort of like yelling at your spouse and expecting to get a warm relationship out of it ...

Tar sands are MUCH different than other sources, it's one of the major problems of the pipeline. It is extremely thick and mechanically corrosive and they want to put it in a standard pipeline at pressures that are too high for such a thick goo. We aren't talking about synthetic crude, but raw bitumen.

Those spills are going to be awful. The land and people it will destroy shouldn't be treated as a commodity and cannot be replaced. Build wind and solar energy. Forget these stupid oil sands and fracking. It's gonna be one 'natural' (anthropogenic!) disaster after the next if we don't stop these unsustainable energies. Keep up the good work, Bill!

In Thomas Jefferson’s book, Note on the State of Virginia, he argued for the United States to be founded on an agrarian ideology. In the excerpt we read for class today, Jefferson called for an American economy built on agriculture and to “let the work-shops” remain in Europe” (Jefferson, 18). He recognized the need for some domestic industry but believed the vast land of America could be utilized by farming. Alexander Hamilton’s views contradicted Jefferson’s and his views on manufacturing and industry prevailed; consequently, America has progressed into a state of manufacturing rather than an agrarian state. This trend has become increasingly evident over time. Today, less than 2% of Americans farm. “Even though everyone still eats, taking part in the practice of growing food has less direct influence on people’s lives than at any point in our history (Hagenstein et al 3). Thus, we see the prevailing view of Alexander Hamilton as having profound impacts on the American economy and the global environment.

Thomas Jefferson adamantly advocated for the founding of this country to be based on agrarian ideals. Agrarianism supports working on land in ways that can last due to its focus on the interconnectedness of life (Freyfogle xix). Agrarians are sustainable and understand that humans need the Earth, land, and animals for our very subsistence. In the agrarian mindset, the health of humans is dependent in the long run on the well being of the larger land community (Freyfogle xix). Clearly, agrarian views dissent greatly from the views of the majority of modern people, especially those living in urban or suburban settings in the United States. Agrarians “believe that those who buy products are implicated morally in their production, just as those who discard waste items are morally involved in their final end… Producers and sellers, too, are morally responsible for their work, and in ways the market cannot absolve or cleanse when their products are sold”. Of course, one cannot live in a place without altering it, however, agrarians are about harmonizing their relationship and effect on nature, not exploiting it. From these readings, I came to be constantly asking myself the same question, “If Thomas Jefferson’s agrarian ideology prevailed, would we still be in the current state of environmental degradation we are currently in?

100% agree with your comment. Also not to forget that Carbon Tax requires government to get involved to pass new laws. On the other hand, divestment can happen tomorrow morning since its a choice that anyone can make without the need for new laws or government intervention. Most scientist are conducting their research adhering to the principles of scientific process, and the vast majority - so much so that it would seem rediculous to think there was still a debate going on, if there wasn't an economic incentive for doing so, all agree on the affects of CO2 on climate change and that it is driven by human activity.

You're right, there's always been CO2. And through most of history plants take it up at around the rate volcanoes and animals and so on spit it out. The thing that's different, the game-changer, is the amount we've been adding to this natural level. That's what McKibben and 350.org (and the vast majority of active climate scientists) are worried about, not the mere existence of CO2.

Divestment is a great idea, carbon taxes too. Most people still see the use of fossil fuels as a necessary evil though and even rising fuel prices don't deter drivers from driving or planes from flying. Large movements are essential, they speak to politicians, but they also make oil companies work harder to keep people in cars. Take this issue beyond your personal travel habits, talk to family members and friends. Young people, start voting so politicians will start paying attention to you.

I'm not sure this is true. When I lived in India, oil and gas prices were always climbing (with frequent shortages) and the roads just got busier and busier. The truth is probably that, until oil absolutely runs out, the oil-based economy isn't going away, it will grow, and cars will exist in some form.

If gas/diesel are jacked up, people will find ways to use less. Maybe the oil companies will make more money, but they are small players. All of the big multinational oil companies, combined only produce a little more than Saudi Arabia (Saudi-aramco), also Russia's national oil company is number 3 (well, number 2 after SA and number 3 if you combine the total output of all the multinational oil companies production). We are talking nation states, not multinationals.

The more peoples primary sense of security is derived through acquiring money the more people will do what ever is necessary to make a living. Survival at whatever it costs. Drive 20 miles to work sure, 60 miles no problem. They have us over a barrel because we are absolutely dependent on a wage and survival is a most basic drive. Our economy is systemically dysfunctional its incentives are perverse and catastrophic Sharing, Caring and Community are essential to Carbon Reduction.

Fossil sources are far too valuable to be burnt in car engines, susteinable technology exists to replace them for good w/o a need for nuclear power. But in all this debate, let's skip the CO2 focus — our cities and (agriculture) industry are bunsen burners, directly producing heat by transforming energy without any need for some geenhouse effect. So, let's talk about how energy is wasted for bad products. And then there's always change — I am confident it's better to work it than to fight it.

Look up how much energy it takes to build an automobile. Do you have any idea how diesel intensive mining copper is or even Iron? Personal automobiles are the root of all these problems. They create the suburban sprawl. Do you have any idea how much less energy it takes to heat/cool a city block of row homes vs suburban homes? Row-homes are essentially one big building and all but 2 have no sides to loose/gain heat from. ANYONE who thinks we can solve the AGW problem and keep suburbia is nuts!

We already have climate refugees from island nations in the Pacific & Caribbean. What happens when the stream becomes a torrent? What happens when coastal cities have to fund flood control projects costing billions & trillions to keep functioning, or be abandoned? What does humanity do if the oceans acidify and its food chain collapses? How do we radically transform work, agricultural & industrial mfg to make them locally sustainable & reduce in every way fossil fuel dependent transportation?

@ Bill Johnson: China is investing to a MUCH higher level in sustainable renewables than any so-called "developed" western nation; were they not, that is still the weakest excuse for any so-called economically "developed" nation NOT to completely divest from fossil fuels and get busy on solar, wind, and TOTALLY overhauling efficiency standards. eg. The US trumpets the modest automobile efficiency standards legislation passed last year, but, the EU have standards three times higher already.

At the point where it takes more than a gallon of oil to get a gallon of oil out of the ground, oil becomes uneconomical. Even bio-fuels have an energy cost. Some just aren't feasible. We're not going to get out of this mess until we build and live in ways that consume less energy.

I'm tired of excuses or doomsayers on how impossible this fight is. We will try no matter how difficult, because if we don't then our descendents (who don't enjoy the benefits of burning fossil fuels and face hard times and choices because it was burned) will rightfully curse the names of their ancestors (who DID enjoy the benefits of burning and had easier times and choices, and yet did less). They may curse our names anyway for burning it at all, but if we try hard, maybe we'll be forgiven.

The multinationals ARE the nation states. But, again, the point is that the use of fossil fuel isn't going to disappear as long as the gangsters are making good money. I wish it weren't true. I live without a car and I'm happy and quite happy. Not everyone can do it. And Americans aren't easily going to give up the little four-wheel ego box! There is too much negative status attached to carlessness.

Well, you might have been too truthful! But don't be too hard on drivers. What are they supposed to do? You're kind of giving the oil companies a free pass here. They don't pay taxes and through lobbying they helped create a world in which fossil-fuel transportation has become dominant. Most drives are locked in by what they can't control. But, point well taken: many scream about the issue but never take steps in their personal life to defeat the trend.

Suburbia created cars and cars created suburbia. we need to abandon the suburbs or turn them into cities. Suburbs simply do not work without personal automobiles AND they destroy farmland, create more paved surfaces and each individual house uses more energy because it's a single standing building. Even adjusting for size, row homes (or town-homes) use FAR less energy and much less water to keep that suburban grass green.

The tax breaks and subsidies are there, at least partially because Americans scream and cry every time the price of gasoline rises to even 1/2 of what Europeans pay. IF gas was more expensive, people would start car-pooling, downsizing, using PT and Regional rails (to get from their big suburban energy sucking house to their jobs) or working from home. I say put a huge tax on gas and diesel and use the money to fund better transport and rebuilding/relocating after storms like Sandy. (cont)

I can agree, but what we're asking for by ending the use of fossil fuel is essentially a higher price for energy. It's not dirty politics or a big bad company that will make renewable & alternative energy more expensive, it's just the fact that hydrocarbons are extremely cheap. It might also be worth arguing that if you can use x gallons of oil, bio-fuel, etc. to spread an important message to make change, it's a worthy use of that energy.

Those cheap prices are the result of massive subsidies....and we know about that more today than we did four years ago. Now solar and wind are getting ready to bypass hydrocarbons as cheap sources of energy. A solar car lasts for roughly 500,000 miles and costs less to maintain.....join the transition, however you can.

Why is the film treating the fossil fuel reserves as something that will just get dumped into the air and stay there. Forests in the United States (alone) absorb and store about 750 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year, an amount equivalent to 10% of the country’s CO2 emissions.

Yes..forests do store carbon...and we clear cut like madmen...even if that too has to be subsidized by your tax dollars. Grasslands store carbon...more so if they are judiciously grazed....but the eco storage systems aren't keeping up with the CO2 emissions. And that's a fact...hard to accept, but like anything good....in excess, it can become a poison. Thus rising CO2 in the atmosphere.....and the increase in extreme weather. Welcome to the future.
