Tin King
Ultraísta Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Toon town
Velvet underground
And high speed
Rude model
Mojo
Chic
Major breakthrough
Dialogue and half that
I'm gonna half that
I'm gonna half that
I'm gonna half that

Bottom range
Half term
Thirteen times
A right hand
No tea in the crowd
Lock and loaded
With the odd jobs
Brute force
And white drag
And white drag
And white drag
And white drag

August in the thirties
Good night
God bless
And loaded with the odd jobs
Brute force
White trash
After
Rude model
Mojo
Running down the hot tub
Change is arresting
And after all the money's gone
A brute force
And white trash
Smuggle a bomb in a bubble

Thirteen times
A right hand
And in the right hand
And in the right hand
And in the right hand

Dream cars
All stars
Drum and bass
And kick start
High speed
Cocktail party
Hat no sale
Rude model
Mojo
Dialogue and industry
And August in the thirties
David Bowie LPs
I feel abominable
A bomb in a bubble

It's you, the sunshine

It's you
New day
Sail away
Good night
God bless
And loaded with the odd jobs
Brute force
White trash
After
Rude model
Mojo
Running down the hot tub
Change is arresting
After all the moneys gone
And brute force
And white trash
Smuggle a bomb in a bubble

It's you, the sunshine

It's you
Thirteen times a right hand
And in the right hand
And in the right hand
And in the right hand

Bleep cars
All stars
Drum and bass and kit car
High speed
Cocktail party
Have no sail
Rude model
Major
Dialogue and industry
And August in the thirties
Am I in the right hands?

Thirteen times a right hand
And in the right hand
Am I in the right hands?
I'm in the right hands
I'm in the right hands
I'm in the right hands
I'm in the right hands
I'm in the right hands
Am I in the right hands?
I'm in the right hands
I'm in the right hands
I'm in the right hands
Am I in the right hands?
I'm in the right hands
I'm in the right hands
I'm in the right hands

It's you, the sunshine
It's you, the sunshine

It's you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ultraísta's "Tin King" are filled with cryptic and obscure references that may seem confusing and hard to interpret at first. The song's lyrics evoke a surreal and mysterious world that is both nostalgic and futuristic, blending elements from different eras and genres. The song's chorus "It's you, the sunshine" seems to be a recurring motif that ties together the various verses and images, as if the singer is searching for something bright and positive amidst all the chaos and darkness.

The opening verses reference "Toon town" and the "Velvet underground", which may be alluding to cartoonish imagery and countercultural icons of the 1960s. The next lines mention "high speed", "rude model", "mojo", and "chic", which suggest a glamorous and fast-paced lifestyle that is fueled by ambition and attitude. The phrase "major breakthrough, dialogue and half that" implies a sense of professional achievement and negotiation, although it is not clear what exactly is being discussed. The repetition of the line "I'm gonna half that" suggests either a challenge or a compromise.

The next verses talk about "bottom range", "half term", "thirteen times", and a "right hand". These phrases are more cryptic and could be interpreted in a variety of ways, although they seem to convey a sense of repetition and precision. The line "no tea in the crowd" may be a nod to the English tradition of queuing politely, even in chaotic situations. The phrase "lock and loaded with the odd jobs, brute force, and white drag" suggests a readiness for action and a willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed, even if it means resorting to unconventional or unsavory methods. The final verses mention "August in the thirties", "David Bowie LPs", and "a bomb in a bubble", which evoke historical and cultural references that are somewhat obscure and enigmatic. The song ends with the repeated line "Am I in the right hands?" which raises the question of trust, loyalty, and identity.

Overall, "Tin King" is a complex and elusive song that invites multiple interpretations and meanings. It seems to suggest a longing for something pure and shining amidst a world of confusion and uncertainty.

if this was a great song, you would like it as much with just with an acoustic guitar backing it up or just acapella in a pub or at a football stadium...in a way great production hides a lot of such flaws, but it can even (unnecessarily) outshine or overshadow the song when the song was capable of standing on its own laurels, and should have been given space to do so. You often find a cover version of the song is more successful for this very reason, apart from other reasons, of course such as the resonance of time.

It sounds fantastic, but the chorus doesn't quite get enough melody across to balance the monotonal verses....for it to be a great song it needs a bridge to splash in a bit of melodic colour
