Distraction?. IE was he in on it but not in the sense of wanting it to happen. How else better would you raise FBI or Bodyguards attention by being different, he was standing slightly behind the sign whilst strangely hold the umbrella upright. So was he somehow trying to raise suspicion in the agents minds so it would make them guard the president more because he knew shots was coming hence why he was stood where he was. And another reason for acting like this is maybe he didn’t want to be arrested if admitted he knew the plans because that meant he was in on it but wanted out last minute. Who’s knows most certainly not me because I don’t know much about the subject but thought I’d offer a possible reason with a clear mind away from any other theories. Very strange tho and I must say the Umbrella man’s reasoning does sound odd but again I don’t know much. So I’ll shut up and go hide under my rock.

When thinking about or watching a video about the JFK assassination does anyone feel like the entire event was from a alternate universe? The idea of this happening in the open in front of people 10 feet away is incomprehensible to me. For people who were middle-age in in 1963, Neville Chamberlain was a major, highly recognizable historical figure, and his umbrella was a bit of a trademark. It was used in caricatures and such. JFK literally wrote a college thesis about England's path to WW2: he must've had an opinion on Chamberlain, and he most likely would've known about the umbrella.

Political trivia is weird: why else would "go, Brandon!" be a taunt against Joe Biden, for instance? If you try to explain it to someone 60 years from now, they'd say you're insane.
Or you could mock Al Gore by pulling up a fake lockbox, or dress up as a potato if you're going to meet Dan Quayle, or wear a tan suit in front of Obama...

We'll never know the real story about this. I think after having watched this whole video it makes sense that the umbrella man was the target range indicator for the two shooters. Catapults and trebuchets used in siege warfare in the middle ages used to use painted rocks as target range indicators.

I am a child of the 1960's and I sensed that optimism that exuded the speeches of a JFK even here in distant Europe. Years later, the shock of this assassination attempt and the charisma of a true statesman were still deeply rooted in society. JFK's visit to Berlin was a true folk festival for the population and hearts just flew to him. From the young students as well as from the older citizens. One would think that society in America has progressed in a positive way and there have been presidents who were not only true statesmen but also skillful politicians who were highly respected throughout the world.
Then, when I compare the speeches and thinking of a JFK to the demeanor of a Trump, I seriously ask myself, what went wrong. Where and when did you take such a wrong turn historically.
I know more than half of American citizens still support democracy, but there are also millions of individuals who put on a silly hat or cap and wrap themselves in a flag that is dishonored with an ugly head. Your Capitol, the Temple of Democracy has already been dishonored in a most undignified manner.

I might be able to agree that it's just a coincidence, if not for the photos of Umbrella Man and 'Dark-Complected Man' (the guy who steps into the road and raises a fist) sitting down next to each other in the moments following the assassination, both of them looking oddly calm while everyone around them is running one way or another. When drawing in perspective, we use a reference point to which our entire drawing construct relates. The Umbrella Man is nothing other than such a reference point for the second shooter from Grassy Knoll. If those responsible for the assassination actually wanted to ensure that Kennedy would actually be fatally shot, they could never rely on just one shooter, especially from a long distance and with a rifle that was not at all suitable for that purpose. Whoever was behind Kennedy's assassination provided a lot of distractions that certainly seemed plausible at the time, but after more than 60 years they no longer stand up to scientific and technical scrutiny. The Umbrella Man was not a random onlooker, but a cog in the clockwork of the plot.

Because there were multiple shooters in different locations, they needed someone to act as a signal. The umbrella man was that signal. When the limo reached him, that was the time to commence fire.

If there had been NO umbrella man, the multiple shooters may have opened fire at different times. IF that had happened, people would DISTINCTLY recall hearing shots from multiple directions. But since everyone opened fire AT THE SAME TIME, people could not clearly identify the sources. Even is someone DID get the multiple locations right, they were able to chalk it up to "hearing echos" during the mass chaos.

Thus, they were able to blame it on a "lone shooter" aka Oslwald. They KNEW there were be cameras, so they HAD to get ALL the shots off at one time!!!!! The umbrella man was the KEY the whole thing!!!!

My great-uncle was 11 years old the day Kennedy was assassinated and his memory of learning about Kennedy's death that day is seared into his memory as though it happened yesterday. He describes it as "the beginning of the loss of innocence for his generation". Watching and listening to Kennedy's speeches, you could feel the charisma and the hope and optimism he projected for the country, and especially for young people. There has been NOTHING like that in my lifetime or in the last 50 years. I'm not of that time, but I feel the loss.

Another odd thing about The Umbrella Man is how heis holding the umbrella (2:55). The positioning of it is higher than people would normally hold one to block the sun or rain because it is less effective when you hold it more away from you (upward) than when you hold it lower. One could speculate that he held it higher so it can be seen from a distance over the top of the crowd. If he held it like people normally do, there's a chance it can blend into the crowd.

When the motorcade reached the Umbrella the shooters were precisely a certain distance to the target. It's much easier to sight in on a target when you know the distance.

At 2:55 the umbrella man raised and fully extended his arm just as the car was driving by him and the sign. The umbrella is raised too high to block the sunlight, the shadows prove that part. The raised umbrella was the signal to sync the shooters with LHO’s incoming shot. The angle of the umbrella shadow clearly shows the umbrella was not used to block the sunlight.

Right up to the point where he claims that from 11/22/63 to 1978; he had no idea anyone wanted to to talk to him. The guy in the raincoat, w/umbrella, standing close enough to almost be the THIRD victim of that bullet, and he had no idea someone may want to speak w/him. If you know anything about shooting, then you know your breathing is paramount especially when aiming a rifle. If there were multiple shooters, there had to be somebody there to coordinate the shooters' breathing, especially if they wanted to pin this on one person. Umbrella man is perfectly situated so he would be visible for the TSBD shooters and any potential extra shooters on the grassy knoll or the DalTex building. After visiting Dealey Plaza a few years ago, I discovered a cast-iron, grated manhole entrance to the underground storm water piping, allowing clear visibility many feet down into that pipe on a sunny day like that day. It was located behind the fence at the top of the grassy knoll between the fence and the railroad tracks. It is possible someone climbed down and crawled through those pipes to the storm drain opening at curb level near the Stemmons Freeway sign and shot from there. The fence would shield their doing so from the view of any of the crowd on the street to watch the motorcade. If true, "Badge Man" as he is referred to in many chronicles of this event, may have been placed there at the top of the knoll to discourage anyone from wandering behind that fence. The limousine would pass within just a few feet of that curbside storm drain as it came down the street headed for the triple overpass, given the typical lane width of 12 feet and the width of the limousine, reducing the challenge of hitting a moving target. It is the perfect hiding place. That alone may also explain some of the acoustical anomalies often recounted and reported of where shots were coming from as well as providing a secure path of escape once complete. The vertical piping at the entrance is roughly 36" in diameter with rebar steps in the sidewalls going down, but no way to know if the horizontal piping it leads to is of sufficient diameter for an average human to crawl through. I can presume they are large enough or why else have an access pipe at all? Consider that the location of the shooting was at the very end of the onlookers' gathering places along the route, minimizing the number of close potential witnesses compared to any other stretch of the route. There have been no reports of crowds gathered at, in or beyond the triple overpass. Just something to think about...

Yes . He raises it up slowly and very high up and holds it to slowly lower it . Holding it vertically straight the whole time . And all the witnesses there saw the shots were from mostly the knoll . 500 people ran from the main and houston streets crowds within a minute straight to the knoll . If the window was the sniper he would have been closer and caught within seconds with no escape being cornered on the sixth floor .

Hogwash! A professional shooter would not need a signal, nor would he be looking through a rifle scope on the umbrella man waiting for a signal. Taking the shot or shots is his call. He would be solely focused on the target from the time it turned onto Elm St., and nothing else. He does not need the distraction of looking at umbrella man and then quickly trying to reacquire the target.

He has his full concentration on the target at all times. Umbrella man would have a completely different view of the target than the shooter. All that is a distraction. Besides, umbrella man raised his umbrella after Kennedy was hit by the first shot and about 3/4 of a second before the fatal shot busted his head open. No way could anyone have gone from sighting on umbrella man to reacquiring the target in 3/4 of a second.

The fact remains that everyone of the positions a fabled second shooter would have been would have put holes in different places on Kennedy. The holes in Kennedy only line up with where Oswald was positioned. A ballistics expert laid that all out years ago.

It's amazing people think the guy with the umbrella is a sniper marker or a distance marker... for a marine sniper... who are the best soldiers in the world. If a sniper needs a marker and can't measure these things himself, I'd be scared to have him try and pull off what for me is probably the most important shot in my world and easiest shot in their world, like these people are trained to take much much harder shots than that with no markers cause they are trained to measure distances by eye lol. If that man is a marker, and that sniper needed assistance, fire him.

The umbrella man is standing in front of the Stemmons Freeway sign in both the Zapruder film and in the Bronson slide shown in this video. However, in the Willis photo taken at about the same time the umbrella man is standing far behind the Stemmons sign. This discrepancy is, in my opinion, evidence that the Willis photo has been altered. Several researchers who claim to have seen a different film of the assassination taken from a vantage point similar to that of Zapruder claim that in this "other film" you can see the umbrella man rapidly pumping the umbrella up and down as the shots are fired.

I did see one video showing the guy on the other side of the motorcade in the grass that got shot. He was struck on the cheek from flying debris after the bullet hit the curb. This event completely broke down the illusion of being safe in America. I was in the first grade in Hurst, Texas. 20 miles away from Dallas. It was the only time I ever saw teachers openly crying and unable to continue maintain their composure. Nobody knew what to do next so they sent us home. She is prominent in several pictures, yet the CIA never located her, and she never came forward on her own, even when it was reported in the news that officials wanted to interview her. She is seen in other photographs taking pictures herself, and the CIA and Secret Service wanted to talk to her and see her film to know if she captured a suspect or something that could help their investigation. Why didn't she come forward?? I am from the UK. I don't know much about guns(as we ban them) or range finders. But Neville Chamberlin and umbrellas is quite obscure. In the UK Chamberlin is known for having a bit of paper from Hitler which meant peace(although it didn't). All you have to do is wait for the target to enter your field of vision. I believe that the umbrella man was a signal both to the shooters and to the limo driver (Greer). Hit team one completing the mission was the way they wanted it to go down. Shooting down JFK from where right around where Oswald was penciled in as doing it. Umbrella man was watching closely and it was his job to put up the umbrella if hit team one failed (which they did). In that case Greer was to slow/stop the limo so that hit team two, with higher powered guns, would ensure that it got done. Once the second shooter (s) saw the umbrella they knew it was their turn and they couldn't miss. This caused a need for much more cover up. To me it just seems like common sense given the video evidence.

I was a boy back in 1964, but i distinctly remember my very fair skin grandfather and grand mother always walking with umbrellas to avoid the direct sun. The custom fell out of favor as well as hats which that grandfather also wore. Am not saying that man had nepharious intent. Could have been someone who was not from Texas. The Texas sun can be brutal. Even in November, if you're not used to it. As I understand it, it was drizzling in Fort Worth Texas that morning as President Kennedy made his first speech. By the time he got into his limousine in Dallas for the motorcade it was sunny and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Try wearing a suit and tie in 70 degree weather anywhere. Or just use an umbrella. For everyone claiming the umbrella was a distance marker, please explain the logic of placing a person with an umbrella within 5-10 feet of a permanent freeway sign. The logic could have been to use the umbrella man instead of the sign as a marker because maybe there was two shooters. A flat sign is a good distance marker if there is only one shooter, but not so good if there are two. A human with an umbrella is better. The umbrella could also be raised up higher if the crowd was too big, allowing the shooter/s to still sight their mark.

He had his umbrella opened. Love to know when he opened it and when did he close it? Also some asked about Bush Sr. He was the first CIA director and he was on the Warren Commission. I am pretty sure the Babushka lady was the young woman who was down there filming for the first time with her camera. I think her boyfriend was a policeman in the motorcade. The FBI came to her house said they needed her film but never returned it. It was still in the camera when they visited her. She was the one across the street from Umbrella man. Her film would have told us a lot.

Everyone has muddied the waters so much about that tragic day. That's why people don't know what to believe, including me. I am still not sure that LHO acted alone because of watching the Zapruder 8 mm footage and the report of enter and exit wounds. All I know for sure is that JFK assassination was horrible.

As a military member for 29 years. The simplest explanation IMHO is, a sniper uses a points of reverence for accuracy. By Pinpointing a target, it is a way to get a distance prior to the intended target! If a sniper views through his scope and sees that umbrella mark person standing “where” Kennedy might be is too much of a coincidence!? To a trained eye to me, the sniper was being readied by “Pinpointing” the exact distances for a target. Watching the video indicated to me the umbrella was a point of reference for the sniper, giving him the distance he needs for an accurate shot… If what I aforementioned is true then Lee Harvey Oswald couldn’t have done it unless he was trained! In IMHO he was used as a diversion from the real culprit… Reading his background he wasn’t the best marksman shooter in the Marines. Plus he didn’t have the knowledge or logistics know how of being that accurate or professional. Meaning the only group that would have the logistical and the experience to set up and know exact the moment of where Kennedy’s could be shot? Sound like an operation that either the military (Kennedy didn’t want to escalate Vietnam war); or Special Government Agency CIA & FBI Edgar Hoover (no love for Kennedy); or Mafia hit job (he did spurn Sinatra) or maybe a foreign government might (Khrushchev (Berlin standoff & missile Cuba crises)?!? Or a combination, all I know is Kennedy had Lots of enemies! It’s impossible to know unless someone comes out, who knew what really happened?!? That opportunity may never come all those involved might be long gone?!?

an UMBRELLA on a sunny day? That's seems to odd a thing to use as a way of pinpointing anything. Lets say the sniper gets his say on what the man should be holding and being a shooter myself, I'd likely go with a balloon. It's going to give me the wind speed as well though that wouldn't be all that necessary with such a short shot. In fact there really isn't any reason to need a person there to hold anything at all. The target is so close. Makes little difference.

The true part is, by his own admission, he was there to transmit a message using his umbrella, (but not the the message that we are all led to believe). Both he and his prop was the message, Louie Steven Wittt, the “Umbrella Man” = (AM Number All), the other clues are in the name of Louie Steven Witt.

In 2008 I was living in the Philippines and bumped into an elderly American chap. Very talkative and pleasant company. He then told me that he originated from Dallas and was a Policeman on the JFK detail. He then said he was one of the motorcycle outriders riding along with the limo. Furthermore he said he was totally convinced that shots had come from the front as well.

I have a friend who very clearly remembers seeing smoke from the World Trade Center drift by the view from her school on 9/11. She'd swear to you that's what happened, but all recorded footage shows the wind blowing in the opposite direction, and her mother claims she wasn't even attending that school at the time. If her memory of an event from 20 years ago is inaccurate, it's more than probable your policeman's memory from over 50 years ago is similarly flawed.

That area was surrounded by buildings so if a shot rang out i don't believe you can accurately describe where it came from.

I know the Umbrella Man theory pretty well...The man that claimed to be the Umbrella Man was not checked out by any authorities to confirm his identity. For all we know, he was just some random guy with an umbrella that came in and said, "Don't worry, it was just me" and left. No proof of anything. And the rigged Umbrella that could shoot, sure this guy laughed about it, but there IS one that works and was used on display in a museum. I forget which one, but it's either the FBI Museum or the CIA Museum...I'm leaning toward FBI Museum because I don't think the CIA has one. Regardless, it is an Umbrella gun, so I don't see why this guy was laughing the idea of it off.

Over the years o watched many things about jfk killing , the consistant thing i keep seeing over the years was that in area of the shooting , was a large number of people knew it was about to happen. For example if you go to a football game , people will come out to see the game , like fans just to see it be played out . Like a spectacle of a lifetime.
