Der Bluten Kat
Umphrey's McGee Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(I know) Well I know another way to turn if you go around and look back.
(I know) Cause I know to look before jump and jump before you look.
(I know) Cause I know another way to turn if you go around and look back.
(I know) Cause I know to think before you speak and think before you act.

(I know) But I know another way to think if you open up your eyes
(I know) Cause I know to take a deep breath and take it real clear.
(I know) Cause I know another way to look when you're probably going to wait.
(I know) Cause I know to look before you jump and jump before you look.

(I know) I know another way to think when everything goes wrong.
(I know) Cause I know that life's too short and not so long.

(I know) Cause I know the way your brought up and what you're supposed to think when.
(I know) Cause I know to think before you act and think before you speak.

"I know everybody vapes... but if you have any lighters..." Man, it was for sure the musicianship that hooked me, but the humor is the frosting on the cake. With that said, the humor in UM's playing is what sets them apart from a lot of other bands. I remember Jake saying in an article how he'd get a wild hair and just start shredding during what most would consider inopportune times because he thought it would be funny... but yet, it grabs you by the heart because there is sincerity sharing that emotional space. Jake can just pluck a feeling out of the air and process it through his guitar like no one else.

Bayliss is one hilarious dude. My favorite BB joke was UM playing a late-night set at Rothbury 08 or 09 (? can't even remember the year honestly) and it was right after The Deads mainstage set. Brendan goes "let's hear it for the opening band, The Grateful Dead. Keep your eye on those kids, they're going places". I still laugh about it to this day

@DerBlutenPat1348

I’d like to live the rest of my life in that Bayliss solo.

Couldnt agree more. Im a younger jam fan (late 20s and only 40 UM shows under my belt) and this is one of the best live versions of any jam song across all jam groups that I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing in person. 3 distinct jams in 3 different styles that fully showcase the talents of UM
