The band went into indefinite hiatus in 2008
Aaron Bruno and Drew Stewart were formally members of now defunct rock act HomeTown Hero from 2002-2004. In 2004 after several member changes and label woes the band was on haitus. Around this time Aaron and Drew connected back with childhood friend Jamin Wilcox (former member of Audiovent) and began to jam together. All three had experienced several turmoils with major labels and wanted to create music under their own circumstances. The music from these sessions would later be recorded and released free over the internet and called Bitch City. Still going under the moniker HomeTown Hero at this point. However, the evolution of the music did not fit the name so they dropped the name. However, still being contractually obligated to Maverick, the label held the legal rights to it. The members freed themselves of the label without the music but are currently in legal talks to once again obtain all rights to it and possibly release some, if not all of the songs, in the future.
The three friends pressed on and decided to call themselves Under the Influence of Giants. A reflection of their continuos struggle to be free of superior authority. They found keyboardist Katie Logan and bassist David Amezuca and began to play shows in the Los Angles area, selling out venues like the Roxy and Key Club several times, in mid 2005. In Spring of 2006 Katie Logan decided to amicably leave the band and created the duo Katie and Katie with a friend.
In the winter of 2005 they signed with Island Records. They released their debut in summer of 2006.
Lay me Down
Under The Influence of Giants Lyrics

That I just waited for you there.
Wondering how, I figured it out,
Now I'm just stuck inside your stare.
Wondering how, you figured me out,
I'm just a nobody who cares
You say loves a flow
All right, okay
Lay me down.
She's good,
All time, all around.
All right, okay
Lay me down.
Oohhh...
Give me a sign,
Say it's okay
Need it to make it through the day
Give me your hand,
Sell me your soul.
I need it so I can feel controlled
Say love's a flow, oh
Only I can say so, oh
All right, okay
Lay me down.
She's good,
All time, all around, ohh
All right, okay
Lay me down.
Singing, ohh...
Baby, you can bring me down,
If only I can make you frown.
Baby, you can bring me down,
I promise not to make a sound.
All right, okay
Lay me down.
If she's good,
All time, all around.
All right, okay
Lay me down.
If she's good,
Then all I got is sound
All right, okay
Lay me down.
If you know, if she's good
Then all I got is sound
Alright, okay
Lay me down
No, no...
The lyrics of Under The Influence of Giants' song Lay Me Down appear to describe a relationship that is emotionally charged and confusing. The verses are filled with questions and wonderings about how the other person feels, thinks, and perceives the singer. The first verse, for example, suggests that the singer has been waiting for the other person and is now stuck in their gaze. The second verse has the other person taking control, offering the singer a sign or a hand while demanding to sell their soul so that the singer can feel controlled. The chorus seems to suggest that ultimately, the relationship is okay, and the singer can be laid down, as long as the other person is with them. There is also an undercurrent of emotional manipulation, with the singer repeatedly begging for attention and affection.
The second half of the chorus, "She's good, all time, all around," is interesting because it suggests that the other person is always there, always supportive. However, the verses that precede it seem to indicate that the relationship is anything but smooth sailing. This contrast between the chorus and the verses adds a layer of complexity to the song, highlighting the confusion and ambiguity that can exist in even the best relationships. The repeated refrain of "all right, okay" suggests that the singer is trying to convince themselves that everything is okay, when in reality, it may not be.
Overall, Lay Me Down reflects the ups and downs of relationships, highlighting the desire for control, the fear of being alone, and the complexities of emotions.
