In 2008, the band signed to Ferret Records, who would then re-release The Awakening as an EP. In 2009, they released their second album, Forfeit Misfortunes on Ferret Records, which garnered mixed reviews due to the and straying away from their original deathcore sound, as this album was more metalcore. The band was scheduled to tour with Impending Doom, Carnifex, Miss May I, Conducting the Grave, and Molotov Solution, but the band had to drop the tour, even going as far as disbanding, due to medical concerns regarding their vocalist, Harrison DeGrote.
As of 2023, however, the band have reformed and released their newest single after 14 years.
Faceless
Underneath the Gun Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It goes this time
A life of onslaught
A time for downpour for everything you're not
Believe
Believe
Believe
When you find yourselves in the end time
In him I truly arise
Calling father to son
Forgive the shameless life
Signing side with side in him I rise
Arise
Beneath defeat
The lyrics to Underneath the Gun's "Faceless" dive deep into religion and the struggle between good and evil. The opening line, "Destroyed the damned and wicked for altogether a time once more," speaks to the belief in a higher power that intervenes in our world to rid it of those who are deemed undeserving or unworthy. The repetition of the word "Believe" throughout the song reinforces the importance of faith in this struggle.
The lyrics also touch on the theme of repentance and redemption. The lines "When you find yourselves in the end time / You will call on him to repent or deny" suggest that at the end of our lives, we will be judged based on our actions and beliefs. The line "Forgive the shameless life" speaks to the idea that even those who have lived a sinful or shameful life can be forgiven and redeemed through their faith.
Overall, "Faceless" is a powerful and thought-provoking song that explores deep themes of religion, morality, and judgement.
