In 2008, the band signed to Ferret Records, who would then re-release The Awakening as an EP. In 2009, they released their second album, Forfeit Misfortunes on Ferret Records, which garnered mixed reviews due to the and straying away from their original deathcore sound, as this album was more metalcore. The band was scheduled to tour with Impending Doom, Carnifex, Miss May I, Conducting the Grave, and Molotov Solution, but the band had to drop the tour, even going as far as disbanding, due to medical concerns regarding their vocalist, Harrison DeGrote.
As of 2023, however, the band have reformed and released their newest single after 14 years.
The Awakening
Underneath the Gun Lyrics

When I was young
I'd thought I'd die
A lost man
A useless life
Truant to my atrocities
I sacrificed integrity
To turn relief of tyrants escaped
Then you will feel my rage
Feel my rage
Wings of Gabriel
Decend to my fate
Curiosity filled with what was lost
The song "Awakening" by Underneath the Gun is a reflection on the struggles of a young man who felt lost and useless in life. He had the desire to escape the atrocities that he had committed but had sacrificed his integrity in the process. He is filled with a deep sense of regret and seeks redemption for his past actions. He believes that the only way to move forward is to embrace his rage and use it as a source of strength.
The lyrics "Wings of Gabriel descend to my fate" suggest that the singer is ready to face the consequences of his actions and is seeking divine intervention to guide him on his journey. The final line "Curiosity filled with what was lost" suggests that he is looking back on his life with a sense of curiosity and wonder at what could have been. Despite the pain and darkness that he has experienced in the past, he is now ready to face the world with a new sense of purpose and determination.
Overall, "Awakening" is a powerful and introspective song that captures the struggles of a young man searching for meaning and redemption in his life.
