Blinding Lights
Union Town Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've been worried inside and through with running
Lived like a soldier, blinding lights
Pale Faces, waiting to inhale
Every hour seems a minute when you don't sleep
in the dark - staring at the clock
Lived like a soldier, blinding lights
And I know spending time in the darkness
Will never set me free, it consumes what's left of me
Breathing life into cold dark dead-end nights
I've been worried inside, and through with running
Lived like a soldier, blinding lights
Pale faces, leave no traces
Caught broken down, lost in a world too huge
Afraid of trying, too afraid to lose
When the trouble builds too tall, I hope you realize it means nothing at all
Tell me don't it make you proud, to love the world somehow
And I know spending time in the darkness
Will never set me free, it consumes what's left of me
The song "Blinding Lights" by Union Town is a melancholic rendition of the struggles and hardships of life. The lyrics convey a sense of desperation and exhaustion that comes from trying to survive day by day. The first line of the song - Breathing life into cold dark dead-end nights - expresses the feeling of having to force yourself to keep going even when there seems to be no hope or light in sight. The second line - I've been worried inside and through with running - portrays a sense of fatigue that comes from constantly running from one problem to the next without any respite.
The chorus of the song - Lived like a soldier, blinding lights, pale faces - gives us a glimpse into the singer's state of mind. The reference to living like a soldier reflects the battles that we all fight in our daily lives. The blinding lights could stand for the constant distractions and temptations that we encounter, and the pale faces could symbolize our dwindling hope and energy. The singer acknowledges that spending time in the darkness will never set them free; it only consumes what's left of them.
The song ends on a hopeful note, with the lines Tell me don't it make you proud, to love the world somehow/And I know spending time in the darkness will never set me free, it consumes what's left of me. The singer realizes that the troubles they encounter mean nothing at all in the grand scheme of things. It's the love and connections we make along the way that give our lives meaning and purpose.

Tempo perdido / legião urbana
Todos os dias quando acordo
Não tenho mais
O tempo que passou
Mas tenho muito tempo
Temos todo o tempo do mundo
Todos os dias
Antes de dormir
Lembro e esqueço
Como foi o dia
Sempre em frente
Não temos tempo a perder
Nosso suor sagrado
É bem mais belo
Que esse sangue amargo
E tão sério
E selvagem! Selvagem!
Selvagem!
Veja o sol
Dessa manhã tão cinza
A tempestade que chega
É da cor dos teus olhos
Castanhos
Então me abraça forte
E diz mais uma vez
Que já estamos
Distantes de tudo
Temos nosso próprio tempo
Temos nosso próprio tempo
Temos nosso próprio tempo
Não tenho medo do escuro
Mas deixe as luzes
Acesas agora
O que foi escondido
É o que se escondeu
E o que foi prometido
Ninguém prometeu
Nem foi tempo perdido
Somos tão jovens
Tão jovens! Tão jovens!

This song represents most strongly music's power to attach itself to a certain moment for me. As soon as it begins, I'm transported back to my childhood, sat driving in the back of a hire car on the streets of cannes on a wonderful evening as the sun sets alongside the endless beach. My brother and sister are sat sleeping either side of me, and my parents are in the front, their smiles beaming back at me. I feel at home, I am privileged to have such memories, and owe them to this glorious song
