Opus
Uranium Club Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Secrets and lies
The age old prize of knowing
That you have the truth
But what's fact to others
Might not always be what's fact to you
With just one eye you spy a reality
Out of touch
But you don't matter much

You don't matter much
We don't matter much
You don't matter much
We don't matter much
You don't matter much
We don't matter much
What's for lunch?

The gadget spread above our heads
Erasing the world from view
Welcomed us in downwind
To a club for folks like me and you
The sun is rising from a cloud of dust
It's the middle of the night
Don't you look alright?

I feel alright
Yeah, you look alright
I feel alright
You look out of sight
I feel alright
You look dynamite

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Uranium Club's song Opus are about truth and how it can be subjective depending on who is perceiving it. The opening lines, "Secrets and lies, the age old prize of knowing that you have the truth" suggest that the concept of truth is complicated and that sometimes information can be kept hidden in order to manipulate a situation. This idea is further explored with the lyrics, "But what's fact to others, might not always be what's fact to you" which highlights the idea of perspective and how it can shape one's understanding.

The chorus, "You don't matter much, we don't matter much, what's for lunch?" plays with the notion of apathy and how even though we may seek out truth and knowledge, in the long run, it may not matter all that much. This is then juxtaposed with the verses where the Uranium Club is singing about building a bomb and welcoming us to a club for people like them. These lines suggest that while seeking knowledge and truth may not matter much, the actions that stem from that knowledge can have a much greater impact.

The final verse, "A: We built the bomb, B: Well not us, but those other guys - C: The Uranium Club," suggests that while the Uranium Club may not necessarily have built the bomb, they are still a part of the machinery that creates the kind of world where the bomb could be made. This all ties back to the initial idea of truth and how it is complicated and often manipulated by those in power.
