Rohan Heath (born 19 July 1964) was the driving force behind the group. He played keyboards, but crucially wrote and produced their songs. Heath had formerly worked with Yargo and A Guy Called Gerald. Urban Cookie Collective’s original vocalist was Diane Charlemagne (b - 22 February 1964, d - 28 October 2015), who co-wrote some of their tracks. The other main members were Simon Bertall (b - 17 October 1967) and Peter Samson (bongos) (b - 15 May, 1968). Guest rappers took part from time to time to create an eclectic mix in the studio.
Heath had learned classical piano as a child, and decided on a career in music after abandoning a PhD at Vermont University. After a tour of Japan supporting the Happy Mondays, he left A Guy Called Gerald to release “Hardcore Uproar” under the title of ‘Together‘, which made number 12 in the UK singles chart in August 1990. After a brief stint with Eek A Mouse, he created the Urban Cookie Collective in 1992.
They achieved a major breakthrough in 1993 with “The Key The Secret”, which peaked at #2 in the UK, #3 in Australia and #5 in Germany. It was originally a track written at home by Heath, in a soul and hip hop vein. After a subsequent re-mix provoked a massive club response it was picked up by the Pulse 8 record label. The follow-up release was “Feels Like Heaven“ which was also very successful. But, slowly diminishing returns met subsequent releases.

The lyrics to Urban Cookie Collective's "Feels Like Heaven" describe a feeling of euphoria and bliss that can be compared to the sensation of heaven. The song speaks to the power of nature in giving us a sense of peace and beauty. The raindrops and sunshine are used as symbols to represent the opposing forces of darkness and light, which come together to create a perfect balance. The lyrics evoke a sense of hope and positivity, encouraging listeners to embrace the beauty of life and find joy in the world around them.
The repeated use of the phrase "oh oh" creates a sense of excitement and anticipation throughout the song. The use of the phrase "yeah hey" adds to the upbeat and celebratory tone of the song. The repetitive nature of the lyrics also adds to the hypnotic quality of the music and invites the listener to lose themselves in the rhythm and melody. The use of onomatopoeia in the "tum tum tum" section further enhances the whimsical and playful nature of the song.
Overall, "Feels Like Heaven" is a powerful and uplifting anthem that celebrates life and the beauty of nature. It is a testament to the power of music in evoking emotion and helping us connect with the world around us.

I’m 47 now, but this reminds me of cubbing at the weekends in the early 90s. A great time to be alive.

I hope Diane's soul is now where she felt to be in the first half of the 90s. R.I.P. Diane, I'll never forget these tunes as they were part of my childhood and early youth on good old MTV Europe, still broadcasting from the UK. She was a marvellous vocalist.
@strictlynorton
Such a talented vocalist and so well respected by her peers in the music industry. She fought cancer with such courage, and has left us some wonderful musical memories. Her work on Goldie's "Timeless" is next level. RIP. Angel Lady.
