Imagination
Uriah Heep Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sometimes my mind is
Filled with doubt
Some thoughts lay heavy here
Sometimes I think it's figured out
Imagination
Endless voyage of discovery
I'm at once impatient and afraid
At least when you're with me
I'm not afraid to live with mystery
I'm sure you know how sad
One night without a dream can be
Imagination, bitter-sweet companion
As my time flies by
Love-hate relation
Hand in hand toward infinity
Lead me here, lead me there
Everywhere if you really dare
Today, tonight, tomorrow
You don't have to take my hand
I'll take it just the way it's planned
Lead on, speed on, I'll follow
When you see me coming
You're gonna know I'm not alone
Me and my imagination
We'll be side by side any way
The wind is blown
Love songs and fantasies
They've kept us busy
Since the day we met
Each new horizon
Reminds us now it's not over yet
The lyrics to Uriah Heep's song "Imagination" touch on the idea of uncertainty and doubt that comes with the human mind. The singer seems to be unsure of his own thoughts and musings, with some ideas carrying more weight than others, yet sometimes unable to make sense of them. The singer is both frustrated and afraid of the unknown, longing for a sense of clarity and understanding. However, through it all they credit their imagination for providing them with endless possibilities and new discoveries. The lyrics suggest that imagination is a bittersweet companion, one that often leads to love-hate relationships and a sense of unease, but ultimately leads us toward infinity.

I saw this lineup live at the Sheffield City Hall in 1980. As an avid classic Heep fan I actually quite liked this album. It contained some interesting arrangements not just a re-hashed easy Living which a lot of fans demanded at the time. I really enjoyed the whole concert including Girlschool who were the support. But later heard recordings of the classic tracks during the tour and found them embarrassing as John Sloman just didn’t sing them well. As a footnote my first girlfriend Karen fell in love with Ken Hensley that night rock n roll eh

The whole lp is amazingly good !!! One of the best in Heep history. But much underestimated. What a bass lines and fantastic vocals!!! :) This song is much too short, should last 10 minutes at least!!!

Génial ! Totally agree with mario. John soulful and strange voice with perfect music writing so subtle with a lot of space and musical void.

Much underestimated record!!! That's why nobody ever bothered to listen to it. I know about 80% of Heep discography for the last 35 years but never listened to this one as I thought it must have been a crap. Great bass and voice!!! You should have been here and see the Heep show some 15 years ago in London with Bolder's bass solo ...about 10 min long!!! OMG.
