On August 7, 2015, Jellyfish Entertainment released a video trailer on VIXX’s official website after a mysterious countdown with a silhouette of VIXX’s last special album Boys' Record. As time went by, members of VIXX disappeared until finally only Leo and Ravi were left behind. A video trailer of VIXX LR was then revealed.
Their debut extended play Beautiful Liar was released on August 17, 2015. The title track was "Beautiful Liar", and the last song, "My Light", was sung by all of VIXX. All of the songs on the album were written and composed by either Ravi or Leo. On the same day, VIXX LR held their first showcase for Beautiful Liar. The duo started promoting on August 18th and they had their first debut stage performance on The Show. At the end of the year, they won best collaboration at the KMC Radio Awards.
On July 19, 2017, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that VIXX LR is aiming to make a comeback and release a new album in August. On August 28, 2017, VIXX LR released their second extended play Whisper with the title track "Whisper". The album peaked at #1 on the Gaon Digital Chart.
On April 11, 2023, Ravi announced that he had departed from VIXX following the corruption issue related to his evasion of military service.
