Refugee
Vains of Jenna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We got somethin' we both know and we don't talk too much about it
Ain't no real big secret, all the same, somehow we get around it
Now listen, it don't really matter to me baby
You believe what you want to believe

You don't have to live like a refugee
(Don't have to live like a refugee)
Somewhere, somehow, somebody must have kicked you around some
Why you wanna lay there, revel in your abandon
Honey, it don't make no difference to me baby
Everybody has to fight to be free, you see

You don't have to live like a refugee
(Don't have to live like a refugee)
No you don't have to live like a refugee
(Dont have to live like a refugee)

Baby we ain't the first
I'm sure a lot of other lovers been burned
Right now it ain't real to you
It's one of those things you gotta feel to be true

Somewhere, somehow, somebody must have kicked you around some
Who knows maybe you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom

Honey, it don't make no difference to me baby
Everybody has to fight to be free, you see

You don't have to live like a refugee
(Don't have to live like a refugee)
No you don't have to live like a refugee
(Dont have to live like a refugee)
No you don't have to live like a refugee
Oh oh oh

No you don't have to live like a refugee
I say you don't have to live like a refugee

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Refugee" by Vains of Jenna speak of a relationship between two individuals who share a bond that they don't fully understand. Despite this lack of comprehension, they continue to navigate their relationship, even though they don't really talk about what they have. The singer insists that he doesn't care what his partner believes because they don't have to live like a refugee. The term "refugee" here might symbolize a person who is lost or abandoned and is looking for a place to belong.

The next few lines reveal that the singer thinks that his partner has been hurt by someone in the past, and they are still grieving over it. He encourages his partner not to revel in their sorrow and instead look for a way out of their misery. The word "abandon" could signify letting go of oneself and surrendering to despair, which can be harmful to an individual's self-confidence and emotional health.

The lyrics of "Refugee" by Vains of Jenna highlight how a couple can support each other through difficult times by assuring and believing in one another. However, the song also portrays the importance of fighting to be free, which means releasing oneself from the chains of pain and suffering.

Love the original so much more than this. I'm sorry, I can't stand this guys voice. I know the singer isn't Tom Petty, but he sounds so good on reverse tripped. But I let this slide because this is early work. And time improves everyone.
