Wil never understand why Valdy never reached the heights that Gordon Lightfoot did. Both superb songwriters!

Wade, I love Valdy and Lightfoot. No question Valdy deserved (and deserves) a wider audience. But Lightfoot produced a far greater volume of great music (not a knock on Valdy at all, who writes wonderful stuff) and also had a solid connection with CBC and the country/folk scene in the US (see his clips playing with Johnny Cash on The Johnny Cash Show, as one example). Those two things expose your music to a wider and bigger audience, and that explains, at least in part, why Valdy never got the same recognition for his brilliant work.
And ironically, Lightfoot's music likely would not have received as much recognition in the US if notable artists of the time hadn't covered his songs and had hits with them. Marty Robbins, Anne Murray, Ian and Sylvia, Peter, Paul and Mary, are just a few who had bigger hits in the US with Lightfoot's songs than he did.

Without a doubt one of the best singer/songwriters to come out of Canada...and a really nice guy too!

Very well done! I enjoyed that. Doesn't hurt that I love this song. Takes me back.

Valdy is a gifted artist.... evocative lyrics, his gentle voice, the innocent play of the instruments to tease out the themes in his straightforward and simple words. Good stuff. Wonderful video, John. Thanks for your time and care on its creation. This is raw yet nuanced. Restless. But not rushed. The video is a blur that reflects the central theme of the song. All these beautiful landscapes with not enough time to linger on any of them, like a postcard plucked out of your hand before you have a chance to appreciate it; which compliments the essence of the song: running and the questioning of its validity, "I wonder when your running will be through? Loved this song when I first heard it play on vinyl at home, or perhaps it was over the radio. Back in 1973, I was a five year old. By 1979, at still a tender age, I may have known all the lyrics, if not the entirety of their meaning. Oh, and the video bookends, with the airplane off in the big blue sky, the few white clouds, and green tree tops; that is a nice touch too, and subtle enough.

Valdy performed at our little University (Michigan Technological University in the Upper Peninsula) a few times while he was doing the college coffee-house circuit way back in the mid-'70s. I was very much impressed. I have his album (vinyl) entitled Landscapes. I just recently pulled it out today and played it. Forgot how great he was (is?!). He was/is great folk.

@Rich Jennings I saw him at an outdoor concert in Mission several years ago, it was awesome!! I also had a copy of Landscapes, & I was planning to bring it so he could autograph it. But I looked through my entire vinyl collection & it was missing! They were selling autographed CDs, but I wasn't able to get one. Still, an amazing experience. I hope I get to see him again, someday.

He really is a great folk singer/song writer. Have seen him in smaller venues where the atmosphere is awesome! I had that album as well and wish I still did :) Thanks a lot for commenting Rich!
