December
Vale Lyrics

Oh Valerie Plame
If that really is your name
I would just shout the same
To the world

Dear Valerie Plame
So they made a wreck of you
But give me the rest of you
And I'll give the world

But you were just some silly girl
Taking in the sights of your empire's colony

So I took you into my confidence
Without a thought of consequence
To my heart or to my mind

But Valerie Plame
If that really is your name
I would just shout the same
To the world

La da da de da
la de da da
la de da da da da dada da

Oh Valerie Plame
If that really is your name
I would just shout the same
From up high

Dear Valerie Plame
I'll look for that long exchange
Outside of the Bureau Change
In Shanghai

But I was just some stupid boy on a bus
When your nom de guerre was Codename Caroline

And so my Vespa became your chariot
From the Green Zone Marriott
To be etched upon my mind

But Valerie Plame
If that really is your name
I would just shout the same
To the world

And when they flashed your picture 'cross the screen
How my heart seemed to leap out of me
And they attached a list of your identities
But the one you'll always be

Is Valerie Plame
If that really is your name
I would just shout the same
To the world

Valerie plame
If that really is your name
I would just shout the same
To the world

La da da da da da da.. hey hey Valerie Plame (x3)

Overall Meaning

The song "December" by Vale is a tribute to the former CIA officer, Valerie Plame, who was involved in a high-profile scandal during the George W. Bush administration in 2003. The song's lyrics are written from the perspective of a man who is infatuated with Plame, expressing a desire to shout her name to the world. He describes her as having been "made a wreck of" by those in power but pledges to give her the rest of himself if she would give the world to him.

The lyrics also highlight Plame's place in history, referencing her as a "nom de guerre" and "codename Caroline," a reference to the cover name she used when she worked undercover for the CIA. The line, "Taking in the sights of your empire's colony," suggests that the singer believes Plame was a victim of the imperialism of the United States. The song makes repeated use of the refrain, "Valerie Plame, if that really is your name, I would just shout the same, to the world," underscoring the singer's love and admiration for her.

Overall, "December" is a poignant tribute to a woman who was unfairly targeted and persecuted by the government. The song is a reminder that even in the face of injustice, there are those who will stand with you and celebrate your strength and resilience.

Just "discovered" this band tonight, I think they are pretty talented, almost a mix of U2 combined w/ Ozzy, lol! Great sound, unique to the majority of the crap playing on the airwaves. Wondering why I haven't heard of them until now!!!!

Does anyone know what these guys are up to now? I've tried searching for them but the "Vale" results that show up are for a rap/hip hop group and I've found a metal band out of CA but neither are this. Also searching for Covering Fire, Closer than Vegas, and Anything, Anything bring up the same songs or something completely different. I'd love to hear anything new from them since the Air Strike EP 2008 and Dislocate the Heart.

Stacey Pilgrim

Do the guys still make music or have an album I could buy?
