Itâs hard to explain, what it meant to hear this kind of music soundtrack life in my twenties.
23, living in a studio flat on the top part of St Georgeâs Square Pimlico for ÂŁ65 a week. Two stops on the Victoria Line into the West End, working in Soho in the TV industry, shopping for vinyl in my lunch break.
Raving & clubbing on the weekends. Hearing tunes like this streaming out of the radio cassette player, getting ready to head out for the nite. The pirates bringing the vibes & creating the momentum for the night & morning ahead.
The music was revolutionary, it encouraged tribalism for way it brought people together. You could experience a DJ set that was ephemeral, yet timeless.
It was all made possible by the cumulative evolution of technology which quite literally injected itself into the core of virtually every new dance music genre.
Itâs possible we could be on the cusp of a new, cultural revolution in the next 5 years or so. Maybe itâll be sparked off by a combination of A.R (Augmented Reality) M.R (Mixed Reality) melded together by an A.I (Artificial Intelligence) DJ & maybe thereâll be some Holography somewhere in the mix.
To the younger generation I say this. When that time comes, be sure to cherish it. Youâll almost certainly feel it before you think about what it means. Thatâs a good thing.
Finally when the time comes donât be surprised when you look across the dance floor at 7am to see folk in their 40s, 50s, 60s melding in with the crowd feeling the vibe, completely immersed in the moment.
Clothing might be networked & able to be linked, as an extension to the stage lighting, creating a new seamlessness, as the people on the dance floor become, as one.
Be seeing you!

If anyone is interested, the âlong dark tunnelâ sample is from a late 80s QED documentary about near death experiences. Super interesting!
