Vampire Rodents' last recodings were made in 1997 when Vahnke was working on a follow-up to Gravity's Rim. Legal issues with Fifth Colvmn Records unexpectedly halted activity and the project was put on hiatus. After over a decade of inactivity, Daniel Vahnke officially announced his musical retirement and the project's abandonment in 2009. In 2016, Vahnke established an official youtube page titled Rodentia Productions and began issuing unreleased material.

Steal, steal
Steal decent shit if you're going to steal
Strip, strip
Strip down to scrap and fuck the rest
Drop, drop
Drop popular and don't resist
Recycle sense, but burn the box
Reclaim, refuse to fuel the cause
Now it's mine
Survival based on what is overlooked
Fed with the waste of the throwaway civilized
And it will persist
It continues to grow
On and on...
Come on, come on
It's feeding time
Take a trilobite
It exists because we forget
What we forgot wasn't meaningless
There's something living in the sediment
Something alive in the sediment
Come on, come on
It's feeding time
Take a trilobite
The lyrics of "Trilobite" by Vampire Rodents convey a message about the importance of creativity, resourcefulness, and recycling. The opening lines, "Come up with something original, steal, steal," suggest that the singer is encouraging the listener to be creative, but at the same time acknowledges that creativity often involves borrowing, taking inspiration from what has come before. The next lines, "Strip, strip, strip down to scrap and fuck the rest, drop, drop, drop popular and don't resist," seem to advise against blindly following popular trends, constantly discarding and wasting resources, and instead embracing the value of "scraps" and unconventional approaches. The line "Recycle sense, but burn the box, get inside" suggests that true creativity involves repurposing existing resources and ideas in innovative ways, rather than simply discarding them or following established norms.
The theme of resourcefulness continues with the lines "Reclaim, refuse to fuel the cause, now it's mine." The singer urges the listener to take ownership of their creativity, to reclaim discarded resources and refuse to be constrained by societal expectations. The final lines "It exists because we forget, what we forgot wasn't meaningless, there's something living in the sediment, something alive in the sediment," suggest that there is value in the overlooked, forgotten aspects of society, that buried within the waste and debris are hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Overall, "Trilobite" is a call to action to embrace creativity, resourcefulness, and recycling, to reject societal norms and embrace the overlooked and unconventional.
